And of course if you just *happened* to have some non-staff with you and just *happened* to put their stuff in your pile ... well -it'd be a shame not to share the advantage? Are you offering, Dave? Indeed so. I'll be along by about 3.00 I think - others will point me out to you I'm sure!

Use my 'pile', if you wish... flash the cash before hand tho!

I also get 10% off as I'm a member of the friends. I may even be on the till (Although the way things are going with new models we might have to take cash in the queue like the apple store do with cards). Alternatively we can relieve you of the difference between the admission price and £18 and you get your own membership card and a year's worth of newsletters etc.

Pity you can't combine the FoLTM and the Staff Discount!

I've just noticed that tickets are being sold in advance from the shop in Covent Garden. If anyone can get there today they will avoid what is likely to be an insanely long queue.

Cheers for that. I'll make my way there if I get away from work in time.

I've now got a copy of the staff rota (good thing I checked teh post tray at work). We're significantly better staffed on Saturday than on Sunday. I didn't express a preference on where to go, but given that half the staff seem to want to tend to the buses I'll probably end up on the trains. Not that I'd complain about that.
There will be guided tours of the small objects and artwork stores at 12, 1, 3 and 4 pm. Various films from the archives are going to be projected on to the walls.
The next open weekend after this one has been confirmed as 8 and 9 March 2008. The museum staff may have recovered from finishing the new museum by then.

Hows that for timing. My FotLTM membership dropped through the door this morning ;D I'm off to pack my rucksack. Now let me see. Sketchpad, tape measure, digital camera, spare batteries, tube hopper, Railcard and Friends newsletter to read on the train. Yep that's everything. The wife added 'and dont forget your anorak', bloody cheek

Well the shop will be the first thing thing I will do when I get there, if anyone wants to combine their stuff with mine, that is fine. All I ask is 75% of the saving you have made, you still get a bargain! ;D
Only joking!

I don't think I'll be there, I am at my mums in Basingstoke and I think travelling from here, doing a day at Acton, and then going to work for a dead late will be a bit much for me. Hope you all have a good time.

Ahh, sorry to hear you won't be joining us, Alex...
At least I am 99% sure I will be there by 11.15... all depends on how my run to and from Hounslow goes...

it's a choice though... with the limited space, would you rather a working Q stock or a (soon to be) working A stock to a 2 car set that can't even move?
It's only 2 cars of which aren't too important in the grand scheme of things, judging that they have an 83 stock and a Waterloo & City 1940.

I'm not saying anything, I'm just saying what their thinking would be if that were the case.
send them an email or Chris W might turn up as he seems to know alot about what's going on at the museum or indeed Compsci.

Well nobody told me, and I'd hope the curators would know. Once a museum has an object, they need a vast pile of paperwork to get rid of anything. It's no secret that the depot is a little full on the rail vehicles side. One option being discussed for the A stock is to arrange for an example to be kept in another depot, at least for the short term.
I can check for definite next time I'm there, but that could be a couple of months away.

I went on a private tour of the musuem last year and the Depot Manager told me that once they had run out of space the first exhibit to go would be the green train (86ts). He said it wouldn't be a decision they took lightly, but ultimately their space is limited.

He said it wouldn't be a decision they took lightly, but ultimately their space is limited. Would the second exhibit be the 1940s W&C car, and the third be one of the unrefurbished Standard Stock cars?

does anyone what chris w account is on this forums The easiest way to send someone a PM I find is: 1. find a post they have made 2. Click on their name in the top left of the post 3. click on "send private messaeg" Alternatively he is quite likely amounst the top posters, so just click the "members" link near the top of the page, then click on "top posters" and scroll down until you find him, moving to page 2 etc if necessary.

Sorry if I wasn't completely clear, but those are instructions for sending a PM without knowing the account name. i.e. if you clicked on the "Chris M" by my posts and clicked "Send personal message" from there you can send me a PM without needing to know what my account name is - the software will fill in the recipient's account name for you.
