........And I thought the ELL would have about 15 - 20 drivers. Never mind.
I did think about this afterwards, I thought that 7 trains, running for an average of 18 hours a day would have at least 3 full shifts allocated to it, at 6 hours to allow for breaks (I know duties are not worked out like this but it is only for estimation purposes), so that's 21 duties, plus 'snips' at a total guess another 5 - 10 duties, then night turns, erm...1 - 2 duties, then staff for the changeover 1 - 2 duties, allowances for driver cover while staff come from or to the depot, another duty and as you say Dave, Spares, Holiday, Training etc so another rough guess allowing for other things as well there's around 30 - 40 duties on the line, and with rest days and everything else I can see where the number would be over 100

Blowing the cobwebs off this one, I have had an oppourtunity to peruse (but not keep ) the East London line roster and duties. They have 44 drivers working 31 duties monday - friday, 20 duties on saturdays and 22 duties on sundays. They book on/off at New Cross depot, cover all the stock transfers to Neasden and meal breaks are taken at Shadwell.

BTW was SQ used for meal breaks / bookng on in previous years?

In fact Colin could you reproduce an example (mock up not real) ELL duty? I know you couldn't keep the rosters but a rough one off the top of your head would be really interesting

Why do trains stop at New Cross AND New X Gate?? Explain how the rosters are sorted out... am confused. - Could be due to the rather large amount of beer i had earlier though.

I *think* it is because they are on different NR lines, so provide interchange to different services.

New X Gate is on the South Central trains service, with services including Caterham/Tattenham Corner, South London Line, Sutton via Forest Hill etc. New X provides connection to South Eastern trains going to places such as Dartford (via Blackheath & Woolwich, Sidcup or Bexleyheath), Orpington and in some cases Gravesend and Gillingham

All I have is the bare bones, not the details - an example can be found here. Please note that this is not necessarily a current version!!

Cheers Colin Well demonstrated. That no.10 duty looks nice, an hour off at Neasden and then another hour break 'back home'. Cool

Surrey Quays used to be the booking on point for ELL trains crews as the SM was there then. Meal releifs were taken at Whitechapel in the same room as the H&C crews or in the 'shed' at New Cross depot.
