Does anyone know how things are going with the installation of the trackside equipment?
I see that the SelTrac inductive loops have been making their way steadily down the s/b - I think they're past Willesden Green now. The n/b seems to be lagging behind a bit.
This leads to another question. Is radio being used rather than inductive loops where there's a suicide pit? At Green Park there are boxes marked as property of the Signal Ops installed and I'm guessing they're for the ATO project?

Is radio being used rather than inductive loops where there's a suicide pit? No, Radio is not being used. Loops will be added to the suicide pits somehow. If you're ever at Bank, pop down to the DLR platforms and look at the loop there. That'll give you the general idea

(it'd be great if you'd keep score of how many are at what stage, as the unit numbers are meaningless to most of us)

There are now 31 trains either TBTC modified or in work leaving 32 trains outstanding,so,when the next train is stopped, over 50% of the fleet will be done.

What is actually involved with modifying the trains themselves? How long does it take for each one? I'd imagine that ATO isn't 'built-into' these trains and therefore need to be substantially modified?

I would imagine, the ATO set up would not be too difficult, because these trains were expected to run under ATO. There must be systems or places for the systems to be installed. Even the 1972 mk2 stock was built so that conversion to ATO was expected!

Takes around 3 weeks to do a 7 car train, there's substantial rewiring in the cab.
