The entire Bakerloo line has been suspended because of Acid-etch Graffiti, which is believed to have been done north of Queen's Park. Only 6 trains were available for service.
Let's hope that the BTP are able to catch up with the culprits.

Were the trains vandalised in service, or were they in service?
Hope BTP get some good CCTV.

Also lets hope that the punishment the culprits receive fits the crime. Three years unpaid community service cleaning graffiti from LU trains would fit the bill.

The situation at Waterloo was starting to creak slightly, with only the Jubilee available for north-south travels, when I went through around 1400 or so.

If it were Oysterable I suspect that people would be directed to take SWT to Vauxhall and use the Victoria Line.

This is an appalling act   Only a minority of teenagers (let alone people in general) would simultanously deface and possibly damage a great majority of a fleet. If only SIX trains out of a fleet of 63 (if I am correct - I looked on TfL's article of 72 TS and that is how many were built) were available... that means FIFTY SEVEN TRAINS would have to be taken out of service - acid etch damage might take a while to repair, so getting them back on the line will take at least several days. I haven't heard of any other vandal action that has had such a knock-on effect as this. |

The line is now open and running with minor delays, so presumably most of the trains are cleaned/repaired sufficiently to run in service.

Speaking of such, I was speaking to a Ticket Clerk at East Finchley [handed in someones lost card] I coyly asked him what the chances are of getting other TOC's to accept it... he suggested that they will be given a choice... Accept what we have to offer, or face having 'provisions' taken away... I had an idea that he meant access rights or agreements rescinded...

I was at work from mid afternoon, It was suspended when I started. It resumed at 1555, from Elephant to Queens Park, but with severe delays, through services to Harrow resumed at 2050, and minor delays throughout the line.

Some people have the job of looking at different ways of cleaning up graffiti on trains - "Rolling Stock Ambience Engineers" - they've even categorised the different types of graffiti.
Someone was looking at sanding down and buffing up window panes with acid etch damage instead of having to replace them.

All I know is what a friend told me when he worked on the project a while back. I wasn't sure if the method was accepted as obviously there's a limit to how much of the glass surface that can be removed and leave the window strong enough for service.

Which is why the sacrifical film is applied to windows... before, it depended on how deep the scratchings were... too deep and it was replaced... £800 a time!

If they could catch the vandals it would really stop them short if they had to fork out £800 for each window they damaged. If they couldn't afford £800 then they can work off the debt. Which works out at just under 150 hours at the current minimum wage rate for over 18s.

Yeah.
The system of getting vandals to work off their debt was tried a few years ago with Orpington Bus Garage, who caught seven teenage vandals trashing buses... the punishment??? Three months cleaning buses... By the end of it, they were in tears...

I suppose LU has to have them made to order so they must be expensive. They can't be that bad though as they are double glazed.

Don't forget also, there's the plan to send the Bakerloo back to Wattyford!
I say PLAN, because I think this will be unlikely to happen, however with Silverlink jettisioning the Watford - Euston DC Locals to TfL from November.... Who Knows What Will Happen?
