Does anyone know if the 72's made it to watford junction before the service was withdrawn in 82?

I wanted to add that yes they did, as has been mentioned, and there was a film shown by a member of LURS many moons ago showing 72 stock trains going on to the Croxley branch for stabling. See the very spot here:

From a corrupted memory there were four stablers at Croxley Depot, and the four southernmost shed roads had 4th rail...check these photos. I have just seen one from '84 but these are from '86:

I know that this is off-topic but I had to ask whether any 38TS had survived to run to Hatton X in service...apparently this was the case.

Does anyone ever recall if any 501 ever had to push a 38TS with the bar [is that what the coupling device was?] kept in one cab ...I assume that there was a similar one in 72TS? I read that for obvious reasons the other way round so to speak was not possible.

Dunno, but Q8 told us of a situation where an R stock on the District had to push out a BR train. Since the couplers didn't match they did the job by sandwiching the 'cab plank' between the units and just pushing - VERY carefully!
