Interesting ideas there, thanks guys. I wasn't aware of the Oxford-Bedford plans. Now I see it may make more sense to have split services if the line will be going to MK or Bedford. Before I just didn't think a separate service was necessary for the 4 stations beyond Amersham. I don't quite get whether the route to Oxford on the other side would be via Princes Risborough (allowing potential to go beyond Oxford to Banbury) or via the the Bicester Town line?

It would also have ended up with tube stock style seating!
I fear the "tube stock style seating" will be along in a few years (put your feet up on the seat opposite while you can....)

Oi! I to fear the tube stock seating because the Met is not a tube line. I believe that a decent x country service could be run between Bedford and Oxford using the former now disused lines. The main problem is the poor quality track and the lack of track between Swanbourne and Bletchley. Trains could not actually call at Bletchley, so a new platform would be needed. I would love to see Xcountry trains run from Leicester to Oxford via Bicester Town! As for local services, peak trains could be extended to Winslow from Aylesbury calling at Quainton Road (but only in the peak hours, and probably only 4 trains each way!). The other stations on the line are in the middle of nowhere! Freight could also use the line more too!
