Probably easy enough to soften with some sort of advertising deal...

Oh yes- this has been applied in Shanghai- There are LCD screens that show the next station and then later show ads on the trains. Helps get more money. LCD maps.... not so sure. I think Hong Kong MTR style LED maps work better.

LCD screens will just make it hotter, vandalism would be costly too.

Protect them with bulletproof glass- and there will be air-con (hopefully working) on the S-Stock.

Or they could simply say: "This is Finchley Road. Change for the Jubilee Line. This is a Metropolitan Line Fast service to Amersham." This sounds good to me: afterall customers can just look at the map to work out what a fast service actually instead of always relying on Emma ! The metropolitan line doesn't have a DVA on their A60 stocks at present do they?

No, the A stock is not fitted with a DVA Thought So. But someone in another thread acted as if it were.

I think the suggestion pacific made was the best. ''This is Wembley Park, change for Jubilee Line. This is a Metropolitan Line semi-fast service for Watford.''
Remember, platform gaps will be reduced for the new trains. Most upgraded stations now proclaim 'mind the gap' each time a train comes in!
Of course, the drivers could do the anouncements themselves-give em something to do!!

Once the last few D stock are refurbished, the Met will be the only line without a DVA. Let's enjoy that while it lasts!
DVA's are becoming victims of information overload, as was humourously hinted at in the first few posts of this thread.

The DVAs have become rather stupid now.
I sincerely hope they DON'T do what they do on stations, and have "a good service is in operation" every three seconds.

The DVAs have become rather stupid now. I sincerely hope they DON'T do what they do on stations, and have "a good service is in operation" every three seconds. Especially when there clearly isn't a good service in operation! Platform indicators on the Central say "minor delays" - auto PA annoucement says "good service"! Say no more!
