I've probably mentioned my cab endeavours on here before, but I'll put my 2c worth in while I'm at it. Now seeing that I'm nowhere near LU, this may be a little off topic but I'll continue anyway. During my 16 years on this Earth, I've been lucky enough to be the recipient of a fair few cab rides. When I say cab rides, I mean ones on the mainline, cause being in the cab of the steam locos at Zig Zag is now just a chore really! I've been on mainline tours here in Sydney where cab rides have been officially offered and greatfully taken, but at one time I also had a nice little arrangement going where I was mates with a driver who I went for a run with from time to time. More recently, we're talking almost a year ago, I was with another train buff and we managed to score a cab ride off a nice driver who asked US to come for the ride. So anyway, cab rides are things that happen purely by chance, and sometimes they'll come across you without you even having to lift a finger, except to press the shutter on your camera! Play it cool and keep it real homies. (Sorry, Ali G must've influenced me)

Totally off topic but when we helped out at the Southall Railway Centre in Merrick Road, of the GWRPG, we were often invited to go down the Brentford Branch and back in the Class 47 by the driver of the 'rubbish train'. One day we got down the branch and were returning light engine and we stopped adjacent to the golf course. The driver explained that they often waited for the nearest golfer to tee off and at a strategic time let off the horn and watch the result! Yes, he did show us how it was done. However my most memorable time was being invited by the Brake Block test Team to ride on Sarah Siddons from South Ealing to Acton Town, and travel in both cabs.
