Google Ads are recocmending Elephant.co.uk at the moment. I really don't know why I'm adding to this thread. The closest thing I've come to driving a car is racing one up and down a beach in north Wales when I was 13, because my uncle left the keys in the ignition... ;D

Cheapest I found (not that any car insurance for a 20-year-old male with no NCD could be called 'cheap'...) was Prudential. They are underwritten by the same people as Churchill, Direct Line and possibly others (take a look at their quote screens: they're identical in design) and also include a year with Green Flag in the price. Not that I've received my documents for Green Flag yet, but hey ho.
Norwich Union- "quote me happy"! Not a hope! They wanted around £300 more than anyone else, and at least twice as much as the car is worth.
Hope that helps.

Daewoo. I thought they made hoovers! ;D I don't see the need for a car myself. I've got an Oyster Card, a choice of 3 stations within 15 minutes of my house, and buses going right into/out of London!

look at The AA. They aren't actual insurers but do the same as confused.
If you are an AA member you get a discount, likewise with the RAC.

Your age is certainly not a help. Your telling me! lol. It was a hell of a struggle to get insured when i first needed it as i was 18. I am with Admiral at the moment, who are OK, will be interesting to see what their quote for next year will be. My girlfriend who is 18 tomorrow and only has a provisional licence, is getting a car and has looked at insurance. She is getting a V reg 1.6 corsa, and they want £940 for fully comp! All i say is, I wish i was female! ;D

A tip I've recently been told about. Before renewing a policy that's about to expire apply for a new policy, as a new customer, using the online application form. I'm told they're often lower than the renewal.

I was at KX on Saturday and saw a guy with Daewoo luggage. But in seriousness, the matiz is about insurance group nil, sp even fully comp at a young age shouldn't cost the earth. My car insurance is due next month and have found Churchill the chepaest, but they don't cover as much as standard. Also found Swinton Insurance's website came through with a good value quote. We're currently with Tesco car insurance at about £260, Direct Line were at about £250, Churchill came in at £210 - BUT would charge extra for the missus job (she's a childminder) and swinton came in at about the same at £210. I agree that 'quote me happy' didn't make me laugh at about £300 and Esure were about the same.

I've been with Hastings Direct since I was 18 (24 now). When I first joined, they beat anyone else I was calling by several hundred pounds.
1 litre VW Polo, £1300 third party fire & theft, anyone? Hastings took that down to £750 for me, which while still expensive, was the cheapest quote I found in days of hunting.
They've been taken over since then, so I don't really know what they're like anymore. Their legal team was quite good when I was involved in an accident a couple of years back (other driver admitted fault).
Worth a look.

We all have different results with different companies in different areas. Personally I currently favour Admiral - but I'm 30, not 18. I have a no claims bonus where an 18 year old won't have. My car is modified whereas yours probably isn't. My area has high car crime (the van's still missing BTW ). Motor insurance is based around so many different factors that just because Admiral is my first choice, doesn't make it any better or worse than any other company. As this thread has shown, we all have different recommendations - but that's because we all have different circumstances (Norwich Union being the exception - did you know they've had to drop the "quote me happy" thing as they couldn't actually offer low enough quotes!!).

I'm with Direct line. My Japanese Import Toyota Lucida MPV (2.2 turbo diesel auto) is £425 fully comp. I live in an area with fairly high car crime and I have >5 years NCD (I'm 33).

As opposed to me (another old f*rt). Rural area, full NCD, 2.1TD citroen: £280 fully comp. low excess, with First Alternative (associate of esure).
Oh, and I forgot to mention it is fitted with a +33% (power) chip........
Silly thing is that if I want my son as an extra driver they want £200 extra, even though he's 26, got his own car with full bonus and hardly ever drives mine.

Dad looked into adding my sister and me onto the insurance for Mum's car (1.8 I think, Skoda Oktavia estate). It would have cost about £200 extra for me (at the time I was 25 with 3 years no claims on my own policy) but only a fraction of that for my sister who is two years younger even though she has no no-claims as she hasn't got a car of her own - indeed I think she's driven maybe 5 times in the past 5 years and then only my 1.3 hatchback. The only reason is because she's female.

Yes- in fact the total difference between the company I use and the most expensive quote I found was around £1700.
