Depending on how good your knowledge is on LUL Rolling Stock, it becomes second nature to know what stock is what. Sounds, appearance, design, and numbers are usually how I distinguish rolling stock.

1972 TS is only used on the Bakerloo, 1967 TS which is identical externally is used on the Victoria.
There is also the other slight difference that 67TS is Automatically Operated. ;D

The 1992 stock runs on both the Central Line and Waterloo and City Line. The units on the latter are currently undergoing the final stages of refurbishment.

The Central Line is deep tube. If by Waterloo you mean Waterloo & City Line, that is a two station deep tube shuttle with the same stock as the Central. Why these specific lines? That will not give you anything like an overview of London Underground. You should also see the sub-surface (cut and cover) underground lines, which have larger trains; and you should try to visit a variety of lines with different types of stock and different methods of operation. You will not be able to plan your trip by picking a couple of names at random and trying to build something around it. What you need to do is to give us an idea of the area in London that you will be staying and how much time you have to explore. Then everyone can give you ideas of the most interesting things to see that will realistically fit into your timescale.

Then return to central London on a Chiltern service to Marylebone, to experience mainline railways in London. At Marylebone you can take the deep level Bakerloo Line, then perhaps change at Waterloo and take the Jubillee Line eastbound to experience the difference between the old stations and new stations. This will also take you out to the DLR if you are interested in that.

If you have sensitive ears don't bother with the Victoria line, old trains = loud noise , and it's very bumpy. Plus the Kings Cross deep tube for the Victoria Line, when I went, stank of urine.
I know the tube has it's own particular smell but that wasn't 'as pleasent'

I'm disapointed - this is **District** Dave's forum, yet we have not seen any suggestions which include a visit to the best LUL line on the network.
I might have to suspend someone if this keeps up ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Connextrain may want to experience as many different Train Stocks as possible.
Any suggestions for a quick whip round the Inner Zones in a day ? ie- Baker St/ Finchley Road/ Oxford Circus/Bank/Waterloo / etc, etc. covering all lines. :-)

I beleive you can do everything by going just one stop - Bond St - Oxford Circus (Central) Oxford Circus - Green Park (Victoria) Green Park - Piccadilly C (Picadilly) Picadilly C - Charing Cross (Bakerloo) Charing Cross - Embankment (Northern) Embankment - Westminster (Circle) Westminster - Waterloo (Jubilee) Waterloo - Bank (W&C) Bank - Shadwell (DLR) Shadwell - Whitechappel (East London) Whitechappel - Aldgate East (District) Aldgate East - Liverpool Street (H&C) Liverpool Street - Moorgate (Met)
This probably wont give you the most realistic experience of the tube though!

Have to set people off at specified intervals, otherwise it will just be a case of who can run the quickest

If you manage to pay the airfare, airport taxes, fuel surcharges, accommodation costs, food, etc, I do not think that you will find that the cost of an Oyster card is too much of a problem. And you will have a nice little plastic souvenir of your visit.

"I believe you can do everything by going just one stop- Bond St - Oxford Circus (Central) Oxford Circus - Green Park (Victoria) Green Park - Piccadilly C (Piccadilly) Piccadilly C - Charing Cross (Bakerloo) Charing Cross - Embankment (Northern) Embankment - Westminster (Circle) Westminster - Waterloo (Jubilee) Waterloo - Bank (W&C) Bank - Shadwell (DLR) Shadwell - Whitechapel (East London) Whitechapel - Aldgate East (District) Aldgate East - Liverpool Street (H&C) Liverpool Street - Moorgate (Met) " That sounds a good basis for a challenge for our younger members. 20 quid for the one who can do it in the quickest VERIFIED time. There already is a record for it, it's known as the "all lines challenge", and its generally better to start with the SSLs first. See www.tubechallenge.com for more information.
