If I'm still about and free then, then yes, I'll meet up with you, but as people have said, it IS a year away! ;D ;D (Although I'll have A-Levels to contend with )

If I might make a suggestion. You arrive on Thursday 5 July 2007. By all means tell us your plans between now and then, but do not expect any commitment at this stage as I doubt if anyone knows what they are doing that far ahead. Instead, be sure to get everyone's attention early in the new year. Perhaps suggest a forum meet on Saturday 7 July (that will give you at least one full day to get acclimatised, to un-jetlag yourself and to tie new corks round your hat). Even if you do not get a full turnout, I am sure that several members will get there just to see if all the things that PT says about you are true! That way, you will have a chance to see who you get on with, who shares similar interests and who can show you the most interesting bits of LU. You might also feel at home if you meet at the Met Bar. It is ex-Metropolitan Railway property and is part of the Weatherspoons chain (founded by an Aussie). It is also reasonably central and easy to find.

We operate a kitty system, whereby you put a sum of money into a jar/beaker/glass. You then take what you need to buy the drinks for the night. Everyone chips in what they want. I remember helping whilst quite enibriated to divide up the remaining kitty after the last drinking shenanigans.... on err, 24th June. But still, you'll be in good company if a fair few of us turn up...

next year when it gets closer sound good? Yes. As people have said, most people don't know their plans are on a certain week, a year in advance.

i keep u guys informed later on i was just seing who was intersted. To reassure you, I think that quite a few members would be interested in meeting you. For many residents of the UK, their knowledge of Australians stretches about as far as Dame Edna Everage, Crocodile Dundee and Rolf Harris. I do not think that many people would be surprised if it turned out that you were bright green and had antennae growing out of your head.

Pssssst,
Apprantly from what CT told me today that he could be heading over there during September. I'm not 100% sure if its this September or next year. (From what he told me its this September)
I'm sure he can confirm of deny this.

lol i am joking duh, so back on topic im looking foward to going to england OK. You are now back on topic and I am sure that you will enjoy coming to England. London's Underground is made up of two separate systems, the 'Underground' or sub-surface lines (SSL) and the 'Tube'. In the central area, the SSLs tend to be beneath the streets and covered by brick arches which form a tunnel roof, although there are a number of openings at stations/between buildings and short sections that are in cuttings. The deep level tube is in smaller circular iron or concrete tunnels and is completely underground. Outside of the central area, most lines rise to the surface sooner or later. There is therefore little chance of being afflicted with sun-related problems when travelling on LU in central London. Also, by October, the sun is lower in the sky, so theoretically less damaging. Remember, few tourists (except the French) spend their holiday on the streets; it is simply a way of getting from A to B. If you are really interested in London's railway system, you will be thinking of ways to get out and spend every available moment on it, not looking at the latest fashions in shop windows - you can do that on another leg of your tour. Bearing in mind that the English weather is far from unpredictable, I would advise that you give as much thought to wet-weather clothing as you are to sun-screen factor. You are far more likely to get soaked going to a tube station than you are getting sun burnt.

You make some good points there CSLR. He's asked me to get him a few maps and such. It will be interesting what he gets up to while in London.

OK you two aussie guys, I've just removed most of the rubbish you put on this thread. In case you read as well as you write, I remind you of the warning about abusing other threads for chat purposes. Please find another site in your own country to continue your pointless (?humorous?) scrap.
We were serious about the result of doing what you two have done and if you repeat it the consequences will be inevitable.

On these "openings" in the SSL tunnel, can you peer over from the street and see the trains?! I've often wondered this on BVE.

Although there aren't any trains in shot, the last picture at www.urban75.org/london/leinster.html clearly shows somewhere you can see trains from. I don't know how tall you need to be though!
