Some time ago Igelkotten promised to regale us with the tale of a signalman who wanted to have christmas off and what he did to achieve it. I still await this memory. So come on Hedgehog let's hear it from you.

He's a bit busy with union work at the moment, but I have heard the story. While I'm not blonde and don't drive trains I'll do my best...
The signalman was based at Liljeholmen on the red line and was approaching retirement age. In fact, he was due to retire quite early on in the new year. But before he could retire he had to work the Christmas period, when all he wanted to do was spend the time at home with his family.
So, a couple of days before Christmas eve he went into the Systembolaget (state alcohol monopoly) before work and spent a tidy sum on getting drunk. He then went into work, came in to the signal box, started making lots of noise and generally causing chaos, including returning most of the signals on the red line to danger.
The signalman he relieved was quite understandably concerned about this, and before long the signalman in question was removed from his signal box, stood down from duties pending an investigation and able to spend Christmas at home.
When the investigation into his actions started after the holiday period, it was decided that as he was that close to retiring, it wouldn't be worth carrying out and investigation, and he was allowed to retire there and then, content in the knowledge he had managed to avoid working over the Christmas holidays.
(I hope that's accurate - ISTR being more than a little drunk myself when I heard it)
