Double Trigger is the Genius when it comes to Camera settings! Shame my SDcard was full and his laptop started to take a dislike to my camera, otherwise there would have been more like that. Glad you liked it

TOO MANY PEOPLE CALLED CHRIS! I agree! and to make matters worse I've also got loads of rail photos from when I was in Scotland in June (although I haven't uploaded them yet). Chris

Some great material there. I see you did the same round trip that Chris J and myself did a few weeks back. It's a shame you didn't do it earlier in the summer, 'cos you'd have passed the Horseshoe Curve in daylight - amazing behind a 37.

Mainly due to work restraints we couldn't go earlier in the year sadly!
Not sure if it woulda been the same round trip though, we had a slight excursion from Kyle following being blown around the town in one of the worst storms I've ever been in for a long time!

You're right, you did it slightly different to us. We did London-Aberdeen (67/Sleeper), Aberdeen-Inverness (158), Inverness-Kyle (158), Kyle-Armadale (Bus), Armadale-Mallaig (Ferry), Mallaig-Fort William (156), Fort William-London (37/Sleeper).

LOL yes that was amusing! The wind was rather storng, even to the extent that it blew Double Trigger's Glasses off and then half way down the pavement! I Had to flail at that! ;D As for the review of the Wick Line by myself Alan, I was purely seeing if I could still see the lack of scenery south of Dingwall with my eyes shut! I think i covered that one up! (Just!!) I'm good at other things too ;D Like talking about kelloggs cables? It's a shame you didn't do it earlier in the summer, 'cos you'd have passed the Horseshoe Curve in daylight - amazing behind a 37. I have seen it, when I was up there behind 50049 + 50031

Very nice photos, reminds me of my trip up there.
When I went in June it was about 3 hours into the trip from Fort William until it got dark, now I see it's dark for the whole journey!
I'll have to go again next Summer...

I belive on this occasion, dreadful is a term of endearment, as in " the Class 50s tour of the Highlands was dreadfully good "
as for midges, they do appear to be a problem, standing by the horseshoe curve on a hot & sunny june evening in full raincoat and wolly hat to keep the ba****ds off me, was quite an experince, worked tho, anyway, don't mention MIDGES it'll make us itch !!

It is a bloody small world! I was on The Jacobite steam train from Malaig that had to wait outside Fort William for at least 30 minutes because of 37416. It didn't half sound sick when it was just idling after it finally got there. Chris

Greetings, yes a small world indeed, we failed (for about the 10th time) out by the Great Glen Cattle Ranch(grand name for a cattle shed) and we speculated where the nearest rescue engine was, and then it dawned on us that we could have been rescued by the kettle off the jacobite, that would have been a event and a half !! We left fort william station as the 37 pushed stock back out ( but it failed again in the process) so we left the scene for beer/food purposes so did'nt hang around to see your train arrive, i think we were in Morrisons when u finally rolled in.
Happy Days Phil

It was certainly suggested by some of us on teh Jacobite that the kettle should go and rescue you - would have made some spectacular photos!
