I was in my cab minding my own business at Ealing Broadway today, when a Central line 96ts came into platform 6 (I was in 7). What caught my eye was car 3 had a driving cab. I've never actually seen a cab part way along a 96ts, and that got me wondering - are they 2x 4 car units or 4x 2 car units. Obviously if they're the former, a cab at car 3 would be worrying! Out of interest, anyone know?

Not sure about how they're formed, but I believe the Central stocks are actually 92s... The 96s are on the Jubilee Line.

You very likely saw the naff DM, 93141. Apparently the reputation of this Driving Motor has become so feasome that it can break the rest of the train on will! I was on a broken 1992TS with many of its motors offline for some reason, and 93141 was in the train...

Actually, the Central (and Waterloo & City) operate 1992 Tube Stock!
They are made up of two car units: 'A' DM - 'B' NDM cars (175 units) 'B' NDM - 'C' NDM cars (133 units) 'B' NDM - 'D' NDM cars de-icers (33 units) 'E' NDM - 'F' NDM cars (Waterloo & City) 4car trains only.
Central trains can be made up using any combination, as long as A-B & B-A are obviously on the ends! Usually they try to avoid A-B cars in the middle, because of the large gap between passenger door.

I'm pretty sure what you saw was the 96TS that's been hanging around Ealing Common for the recent past as mentioned here districtdave.proboards39.com/index.cgi?board=District&action=display&thread=1109992101Each afternoon this week it's not been in the depot ( ) and a couple of times I've spotted it on the South Ealing Test Track. By the time I've stabled each evening, it's been back on 'The Alps' and I did manage to grab a couple of night shots of it on Tuesday evening, which are still on my camera, which is in the boot of my car at the moment.... The move you saw in progress was *probably* the test train crew doing the moves necessary to take it back into Ealing Common Depot.

'E' NDM - 'F' NDM cars (Waterloo & City) 4car trains only. "E" should be DM.

Thanks for the replys. It was definately a Central 92 ts, as there were passengers getting off it. I got the year wrong cos I was looking forward to going away for the weekend, but, unfourtunately i'm back now and the drink has helped me see my error!

I must admit I'd misread your original and thought it was in one of 'our' platforms........
