B is Gallions Reach. Is the link locations where trains can leave/enter service when going to/from a nearby depot or sidings? Location B: Gallions Reach - platform 1 [Chris M] (click for a larger version) The link is not related to depots or sidings. C is somewhere East of Fenchurch Street... Yes, but you need to more specific than that

Location C: Plaistow - LTSR bench on eastbound platform [Chris M] (click for a larger version) All we need now is the link and the odd one out.

Probably too simple; All in Zone 3. Odd one Gallions Reach as the others are all on LUL.

Zone 3 is relevant. Gallions Reach is not the odd one out.

That may be true, but it's not the answer on my card.

Another unlikely one; Three have adjacent stabling - Golders Green Depot, Highgate Woods sidings, Beckton Depot. Plaistow doesn't, so is odd one out on that basis.

Again, not the answer on my card. Thinking about where they are near is the right sorta thing though.

first guess: all of these zone 3s are near gradient descents or tunnels except Plaistow

Nothing to do with gradients or tunnels.

The odd one out isn't Plaistow.
A map may help you.

These stations are in Zone 3 of that line, with all of these lines having double zone stations of 2/3 and 3/4 wherever the lines traverse different zones except East Finchley where Finchley Central isn't a double zone station

How about all of these are zone 3s, and all of them are neither the first nor last zone 3 station on that line (assuming that double zones are counted) except East Finchley which is the last Zone 3 station on that branch from the south.

East Finchley is the odd one out because it is the last station in Zone 3. You're about as close to the link as it's possbible to be without getting it.
