D looks like Highbury and Islington.
Punt at the link - all stations are (or were) linked by the 277 bus route.

I've not looked at the answer card, however it's pretty obvious that on each occasion the photographer saw a sign.

Answer: Location A: Hackney Downs - plaque in ticket hall [Chris M] (click for a larger version) Location B: Mile End - sign for eastbound District line drivers [Chris M] (click for a larger version) Location C: Poplar - station closed due to stike action November 2015 [Chris M] (click for a larger version) Location D isn’t Highbury and Islington, no clue version available. I have no idea if 5he 277 bus serves these locations or not but that’s not the answer we’re looking for.

The 277 bus used to serve Highbury & Islington (it's recently been cut back to Dalston Junction), passes close to Hackney Downs (it serves Hackney Central) and goes vaguely near Poplar (it serves Westferry and Canary Wharf; its not possible for buses to directly serve Poplar station). It doesn't serve location D.
