Came across this picture recently of Embankment Station in 1921. The positive rails are next to the platforms. These days this only happens on single tracks with platforms both sides. I wonder when the policy of moving the live rails away from platforms started and completed. i.imgur.com/Ol7Cj3B.jpg

I believe the practice of turning the positive rail over to be furthest away from the platform started in the 1930's mostly due to network expansions under LPTB. However, I do remember seeing photos of stations from the 1950's still showing the old MR and MDR practise of left hand positive rails.
