Wasn't sure where to put this, here, or District (D78) or Met.(ELL).
When D78s worked East London line 1985-1987, could and did any double ended 3car unit do so, or was there a specific pool, with some kind of modification ?
Thanks.

No modification was necessary, all car maps on all D Stock were amended to show the ELL on. The pool came from/to Ealing Common as 6-car empty trains with crew change ‘officially’ at Aldgate East, although many of us stayed on into New Cross depot.

I thought it had been mentioned herein before but I couldn't find it either. And you read my mind - if no other mod, car maps were something I was thinking about. What prompted my question was the one and only time I did this, the three units I recorded travel on were all low numbers, 750x range, and just wondered if there was a sub-class. Although one sample of only part of the service on just one day means nothing, thought I'd better check. Thanks. -- Nick

In a sense there was a sub class. The double ended units had a separate set of numbers in the 75XX series
7500 17500 7501 to 7538 17538 7539
The single DM units were numbered from 7000

I meant a subclass of dedicated units within the double ended units.

(Note the above is not in red ink, please continue to discuss the D Stock on the ELL!)
