Slightly surprised no one has remarked on it but well done for 50 years of service between Highbury and Walthamstow. Almost certainly the tube line I have used the most in the 35 years I've been in London. Old news footage from the BBC of the opening day. The comments about the standard of finish of the station are interesting.

There is a small exhibition about the opening of the Victoria line and two 1967 stock cars at the Walthamstow Pump House Museum open today and tomorrow (Sunday) until 4pm.
Free to visit.

I didn't know about it until late last nigh. I was watching ITV London News (I get it on satellite) and they mentioned the 50th anniversary and showed some old footage. There's also stuff about it on Twitter. I didn't know it was built by the Irish.

Those plans are very interesting and do I spot Aldwych station on the plans? Does that mean there was originally a plan to run the Victoria line through it or was that the plan for the original Jubilee/Fleet line extension?

Excellent!
A very gaily decorated cake.
Just a very small piece for everyone working on the Victoria Line, one assumes.

Very nice clip. Two things of interest: **The Edmondson card ticket being dated in a traditional press (there was a long queue for tickets at W'stow Central up office - I'd cheated, getting ticket 0000 at the down office!). Has any aspect of this film changed so much as the ticket issuing process? **Blackhorse Rd not being shown as an interchange - because BR wanted to close their station (which now handles a couple of million passengers a year in an ordinary year)

Reminiscent of a Fry and Laurie London estate agents sketch: "The north? No, never heard of that; I've heard of the south east; never been there, but I've heard of it."

Blooming heck. The streets were a bit clearer in the past, weren't they?! Look how cluttered the pavement is now.
