This question is another two-parter, the second part will be posted this evening, probably around 9pm. (no larger version available)

I think this is a District line location, so I'll keep quiet for a bit.

It's an Edgware Road driver's favourite place after the canteen and Moorgate!

For some reason it looks like Plaistow.

Where is there a tamper spurm or other unelectrifed siding off a bay road? The suggestion about Plaistow may be because it appears to be a bay platform that H&C use. And that tends to reduce the possibilities to one? I also agree Plaistow because of the cable arch at the end of the bay platform.

Yes, I think it's Plaistow too. Didn't want to use my professional advantage to jump straight in, though! (Going to look pretty stupid now if I'm wrong).

You all seem pretty confident, but here is the rest of the picture anyway (no larger version available)

Is it an optical illusion, or does SPADding the bay starter put you off the juice immediately, with the way the trap point is set? Can't see no conductor rails beyond the switch.

LU move customers from A to B, they used to do it via 'C'.

Theoretically, yes. I don't think you would end up off juice in reality though, because you would come to a stand well before you got anywhere near 'bucket and spade' territory!! ;D
That is definately Plaistow BTW.

Answer: As most of you have guessed, this is indeed Plaistow, as photographed by Aspect.

What is the siding used for please? Apart from being a trap of protecting the main line of course.

It's only about 20 foot long - you wouldn't fit much in it, so it's basically just a longer than normal trap.

That siding is used to turn my H&C trains back early. How dare it continue to exist. There I am, standing in the cold at West Ham, forced to stand even longer in the cold because the darned train's only going the one stop! [/pointless moaning] Looking at the picture again, that seems like quite a bend into Platforms 1 & 2. What's the usual speed coming up to and into that? (Please excuse me for sounding a little naive! )

(and usual) speed 35mph Westbound max. 45mph, but usually 40. It doesn't seem like much of a bend when you're driving it!

I guess so; I hardly notice it when I'm traveling! Thank you for clarifying.

Its not a siding, the rails finish literally just out of view. They're just trap points to prevent a train overrunning the bay road starter from meeting any possible oncoming eastbound train. EDIT: Oops should have read the rest of the replis before posting, sorry.
