The link is to the London area enlargement of a UK railway map. If you know your history you should be able to date it. I'll accept any one of three years or a spread across those years. (Assume that there is no delay between an event and the publishers updating the map. Unrealistic I know, but just for this exercise.) i11.tinypic.com/302m2qq.jpgIt's a large file, so be prepared to wait.

No idea what the year is, but it's a beautiful map!

well the Northern Heights extensions are there so it will be 1930-38 and East Finchely is still East End Finchley. 1935 is my guess.

Neither of the answers given so far are correct. Rob, don't forget the "Northern Heights" were originally GNR lines.

Because of the references to Mill Hill Park and Boston Road, I place it as 1910 or thereabouts. Note the references to the pre-Grouping railways so it's pre-1924. However it must be earlier...Shaftesbury Road became Ravenscourt Park in 1888..so I now suggest 1885 as Hounslow became Hounslow Town in 1884. Could it really be that early?

Note that Middlesex/Surrey/Kent/Essex are the counties, whereas London County Council was formed in 1889, so 1888 would logically be the last year. That would mean that some of the station names were anachronistic. Logic would suggest that 1888 was "the" year.
I shall be interested to know which year it actually dates to!

That's close enough! Well done. If you look at the Met Extension into Buckinghamshire, you'll notice that it only goes as far as Pinner. Harrow-on-the-Hill to Pinner opened 25 May 1885 and extended to Ricky on 1 September 1887.

Oh well, I was right the first time! 1885 but possibly 1886 printing.
