Is the closure of the Central line platforms this weekend connected to the upgrade works? I say this because on Twitter, it’s being said that it’s connected with Crossrail works!

Is the closure of the Central line platforms this weekend connected to the upgrade works? I say this because on Twitter, it’s being said that it’s connected with Crossrail works! Blimey, didn’t know that Crossrail was that far off! I believe that the high voltage transformer works have been completed so it’s most likely to be works related to the new shafts and passages being connected up to the existing station. The heavy demolition works around the Central line tunnels were due to start in 2019 however the aforementioned works to remove electrical equipment were completed ahead of schedule so they could well have decided to press on as was eluded to in the last programmes and investment committee report.

The Southbound platforms must absolutely reek of it now what with additional channels created by excavating around the tunnel and the dumping of rain that we've had over the past few days.

As this is another tfl station refurbishment, have tfl bothered to actually make the station look interesting? Are the gargoyles and white tiling being preserved? Or are they going with the bathroom look again?

As this is another tfl station refurbishment, have tfl bothered to actually make the station look interesting? Are the gargoyles and white tiling being preserved? Or are they going with the bathroom look again? Sadly it looks like the latter. The latest CGI suggests that it will have a colour palette that is not dissimilar to the new entrance to the Waterloo & City line at Walbrook. When the first impressions of the widened Southbound platform were released, they were very Jubilee Line Extension-esque. It now resembles an updated Angel, shown below. It has been suggested that the coss passages will be framed in blue mirroring the works of the Design Idiom in partnership with Studio Egret West in 2015. You can see traces of the Northern Line Ticket Hall at Embankment, Walbrook and the Northern Line Extension stations in that study.
