Anyone got any photos of these Crossrail mock ups at Liverpool Street or Paddington? Even better, spsmiler has got video of it! I have a Crossrail mug from that era! Perhaps I should take it with me for my first ride on Crossrail when it eventually opens? That'll upset everyone pretending it should have another name.

What was the route back then? Deep Level , I believe the plan from the NSE era was for an East-West link that in the central section is not too dissimilar from what is being built today with the core section linking Paddington to Liverpool Street aswell as incorporating metro services on the GEML and GWML. The main difference is that there was no branch South East of the river and a proposal to have a branch up to Aylesbury and Chesham, I cannot recall whether the cessation/curtailment of Met line services was included in this proposal but it would certainly seem likely given that it was a joint proposal from LU and NSE. This is the only leaflet I have found so far that of sufficient resolution that gives details of the route then.

The Aylesbury branch was to have used the Dudding Hill line. I think at the time closure of Marylebone was being seriously considered, and Crossrail was seen as a way of maintaining a service to Aylesbury. (The Wycombe line could also have been served that way, but I'm not aware of any plans to do so).
