Looks like part of a point switch

It looks like it might be some form of trainstop that rotates on the bar projecting from the black circular cylinder. The other two bars that project from the mounting plate, appear to be there to limit the travel. The red cylinders to the bottom of the device appear to be counterbalance weights, but their design does seem to be a little over-complicated. Not quite sure whether the lime/cement coating is relevant.

You description is absolutely correct (not sure if design is really overcomplicated - it may be done for the adjustment purposes). Maybe you'll even tell us what it is used for?

Looks like summat strikes the top part of it, may be the Russian version of a Trip Cock?
I think its a Trip Cock Tester, on the outlet road of the depot

No, it is located where the journey ends, not where it starts. However, the LU's Tripcock Tester can act in the same way if you drive too fast through it .

OK, here it is: depicted is a speed-sensing ('inertial') trainstop. If a train comes through it slowly enough, the tripcock arm just rotates the trainstop; if a train speed is too high, it gets tripped (on LU, you may use a Tripcock Tester for similar result ). Counterbalance weights at the bottom adjust tripping speed. Used at terminal stations to avoid running into the dead end tunnels at full throttle.

Ah! Now I see why the counterbalance weights are of that design. Presumable, the speed at which the train would be allowed to pass this device can be adjusted by increasing or lowering the weights? That is clever. Thanks for that one Dmitri. I still cannot figure out what that strange white powder is everywhere. Maybe you have clean dust on your Metro system, or could it be cigar ash?

Presumable, the speed at which the train would be allowed to pass this device can be adjusted by increasing or lowering the weights? Yes, the maximum allowed speed is adjustable (cannot find my source right now, but if my memory serves me right, trains are allowed to enter terminus not faster 30-40 km/h, and on exit, they have to slow down to the 10-15 km/h). A couple more photos are here and here. The shot is taken near the 'Mezhdunarodnaya' station which is under construction now, whereas tunnels around it are used to reverse trains from 'Delovoy Centr' station, so it is a bit dirty there at the moment. For the routine cleaning, we have a Tunnel Washing Machine: 'Mezhdunarodnaya' station: ( Click here to see more photos). (As a reminder, photos aren't mine).

superb pics! wonder why LU cant have a tunnel washing machine! Mind you with our water shortages, don't think thats a good idea. Great stuff Dmitri..

Surely they could just fill it up somewhere where there ins't a water shortage? the northwesternmost parts of the Met looked rather green.

i was thinking about making use of all the water thats pumped out of the system - use that - install a pipe with little jets along the tu....... no - that would cost a lot to install....

wonder why LU cant have a tunnel washing machine! I don't think tunnel telephone wires will be happy . Our tunnel equipment is specifically designed to withstand certain amount of water.
