It's a screen on the platforms showing the DMI's in the booking hall. As the station has two island platforms, with 3 roads in each direction being bi-directional, it assist's customers in knowing which train is which in the platforms.

It would be good, if they had fixed the dot-matrix equipment. When I asked a manager who came round once, he said Metromess no longer have the skills to repair or fix it. The idea is very good, just a shame it doesnt work Chris M, I bet that the platform that you have completely blanked over had the Next Hight St Kensington train "Stuck"

I don't know, the full photo is at www.sucs.org/~cmckenna/photos/trains/misc/EdgwareRd-SSL-platformindicators.jpgAt the time I took it, plaform 2 was reading WIMBLEDON Next High St. Kensington Train Platform 4 Platform 4 was reading: CIRCLE LINE via High St. Kensington No smoking please So it didn't strike me as wrong when I looked. I was waiting for a H&C train so I didn't pay much attention to either of them.

As but what one went first... Quite often when a Wimbledon train leaves from pfm 3, it remains up as Terminates Here, Another good one was one pfm 2 once it had on one side of the DMI Barking and the other Wimbledon, eveing though the train was going to Hammersmith and was previously a Outer Rail Circle I've got a phot of the Train Description and Hight St Sgn control panel somewhere, very high tech ;D

i60.photobucket.com/albums/h20/c5pictures/DSC00021.jpgHere it is, got to leave for work now, Will explain when i get in the office! Destions from Baker St and Paddington Circle come round automatically. A red light comes on when a destination is needed for the next train at Paddington Sub. To change a destination, you need to press one of the white switches down, then up and then select a destination. Westbound are on the left and Eastbound on the right. The destinations can be set up for each platform , as well as the Praed St junction signal (for trains coming out of the sidings) The High St Sign works by pressing the red button, though the lights don't work so to find out what it is displaying, you need to look out the door!

notice the 'hope' sticker in the middle of the switch rack! Does this convey a message of its operators thoughts when he operates the said bit of equipment?

Met 'Branch' -( Chris T's Reply # 26)
Reminds me of a cartoon of an old Country Couple on the Tube for the first time looking at the Diagram - "Better hold on tight, Dear, There's a sharp bend coming up",

No worries about that! I'm not a native of Zummarrzet - and I do have to deal with the local farmers

Walker's Train Describer.
(T/op 92's Link - Reply #35)
I seem to remember a Rotating Indicator like this for passengers on the platforms at London Bridge, High Level way back.

This system was quite primitive, and led to a nasty accident, because of the intensive working of servies on the line, it was not uncommon for trains to be routed through out of sequence, and therefore be routed to what was thought to be the correct destination. The usual thing to do, would be to turn the wheel full circle; the constant clicking at the receiving s/box's instrument may alert the signalman to the fact of an incorrect description.

We can see from the shadow that this is a station with a hanging basket. And the brickwork that is visible is not top quality. This appears not to be any of the C&SLR tube stations.
