The plan was for a train for the Central(which we have) and one for the Picc when 62TS started to get withdrawn.

Both RATs should now be out daily for the duration of the Sandite season.
West end 730 is formed W890+891E and east end 731 is formed W868+869E.

This might seem a silly question, but could one RAT not be used for both ends, just running "off" through the tunnels?

I suspect two are needed in order to get full coverage of both directions lines and both western branches. The central has a unit for each end whereas the Met only had one train.

Less efficiently, as with two both ends can be done at the same time and at ~40 minutes Arnos Grove to Barons Court is a lot of dead time. Also, the paths through the tunnels are the most in demand for passenger trains.

If they are reversing the West End train at Hammersmith they are brave to do this in the middle of the day the points are not the best

Does this run when required, or does it run at certain times of the day?

All WTT times, with the relevant WTT available on the TfL website (a la Met line).
Usual caveats apply.

(found it, scheduled it is ) Yeah, that's what I meant by WTT times, sorry for not clarifying. It is worth clarifying that the Met (and Picc) consistently runs whereas the Central is more at the whim of service control. It has booked paths in the form of a timetable notice, but is effectively runs as required.

The Piccadilly had a couple of days with severe delays last week. Was the RAT still running during these delays or was it more sensible to get as many passenger trains in service as possible? With the slightly reduced numbers of trains in service during the leaf fall season, at what point does the potential for damage/delays to trains caused by not running the RAT outweigh the need for an as frequent as possible passenger service?

It will depend on prevailing weather conditions. If the chance of leaffall is low then dropping a trip or two isn't the end of the world - particularly with all the other mitigationa in place this year. There's been a few cancellation on the Met recently due to additional maintenance required on the A stock, for example.
Bare in mind too, however, that the RATs generally run outside of the peaks and only cover the extremities of the line. There's plenty of spare capacity on both the Rayners and Uxbridge branches to squeeze a train through during disruption, and it's not too hard to slot one in between Arnos and Cockfosters at the east end.

I can only speak for the west end of the line but the RAT has been the first train through the area when its running.

The RAT caused a bit of a delay a few days ago when it had a SPaD at Oakwood!

Sorry for going off topic briefly, but is there a bit of scepticism about how soon a replacement fleet will end up being in service?
On a lesser tangent, will 73ts end up being kept as RATs once the rest of the fleet is replaced?

Thanks Fish I suppose there are a few common parts.
Ben I would imagine there will be a RAT train or trains made up perhaps in the same way as the D stock.
