Hello all,
While I hesitated to post this as I don't want them to go, the new stock at the LT Museum shop seems odd. The item (can be found under Code 330459 and is on the home page) is listed as a small rack and the dimensions and slats as pictured reflect this. However, it does not have the hook which is odd - only the medium racks at the cab ends had no hooks from memory.
I called yesterday and the member of staff while helpful did say they were the small ones and had no hook when I asked for confirmation of sizes. When I expressed surprise at no hook/asked if it had been removed they unfortunately had no further information other than confirming this batch have no hook.
Anyone got any more information - I think it is a shame if they have had the hook removed as people are not then buying an unmodified original item.

Wonder why they have removed the hook?
The photo of the luggage rack on the website appears to show a discolouration in the middle as if the hook has been removed.

Yes exactly - that was why I called them to check. Anyhow apparently they definitely are without the hook and it does seem likely it was removed, but staff I spoke to do not know why this was done. Seems a shame.

Taken from the RAT unit perhaps?

Interesting DistrictSOM - did the RAT knowingly have hooks taken off the [small] racks? Would happily buy one as I missed out first time around and prices elsewhere are higher, but I don't want something that has been altered and is no longer authentic. Staff were very friendly and helpful and asked the stores where they are kept, but sadly don't have the answer.

I've got a small rack from when they were first released and mine has a hook, there's currently an umbrella hanging on it.
I note the LT Museum shop markets them as "Original Raw Metropolitan Line Luggage Racks". At first the ones sold were cleaned up and this justified a higher price, however a few years back they started selling ones that hadn't been tarted up at a lower price. I'm assuming that the ones on sale now couldn't be tarted up, possibly because they were damaged when removed hence why they are sold at a lower price sans-hooks.

I got mine in 2015, from a pile of unrefurbished ones at an open day at Acton depot. Sadly, nowhere suitable for it in the house, so after cleaning it up it now does duty as a "flower rack" The umbrella hook is in use.

Missed a chance to do a Met line tribute with plenty of maroon flowers.

That's an idea - I'll mention it to the gardener for this year's display.

Looks good in the garden. Thanks also for the 2015 Open Day tip. Here is hoping the same applies this year as I will be there on 22 April.

Ive just moved one of the A stocks around neasden depot. I can confirm that the luggage racks in the trailer cars by the car end windows were not fitted with hooks. Hope this solves the mystery for you.

Yes the hooks doubled as catchers for the casement window, so weren't needed where there wasn't a casement window - the ones forming the sliding door pockets.

Many thanks to trainopd78 and t697 for that information - much appreciated. Sadly for the planned use in a hallway a hook would be useful.

As the thread from 2017 has been locked I thought I would post this here. First off thanks to all for the help last year. I note the museum shop has racks fully reconditioned for sale again if of interest to you, but note the prices here.I managed to pick one up at the April 2017 Acton Depot open day which needed some TLC but was £30. It still needs a little polish up but it has now been placed in the hallway along with the poster from the A Stock tour - Picture

Not sure how many are left but of course there were potentially a lot indeed depending on how many were salvaged. There is a container with them in at Acton which gets opened up on Open Days where I picked mine up. You have to have a good rummage though as quality varies. Batches come through the shop of course refurbished - some even painted (not a fan personally).

I'd buy one if they weren't so damn expensive, considering they've long been paid for. I realise TfL needs all the dosh it can get, but they must have loads of other salable merch in storage.

EDIT: I believe the whole fleet was stripped as they were dispatched bar a few cars here and there.

It looks like they've disappeared since last night. What a co-incidence from the LTM... 🙄
