A stock for SSL, never worked them but they still have the looks. I did work the 38 & 62ts, I liked both but I think the 38s get my vote.

First post for me - this is a great site! I've voted for R stock on looks, edging out COP stock because of the slightly more modern features like strip lighting and the fact that as a passenger, you didn't get the severe window rattling you often got with the older trains. Still miss them now although that might just be the nostalgia talking. At least, as Q8 says, the seats were comfy.
Diving deep into detail, does anyone know why some R and COP carriages were fitted out internally with grey paint and whatever that 60s moquette was called that was grey, black and red? It didn't seem to catch on, unsurprisingly.

I'll tell you why some CP's and R's had grey paint and different moquette. It was because Acton Works had simply an excess of the damn stuff and wanted get some out of the stores. They also wanted to get passenger reaction which was not forthcoming. There may have also been a shortage of Cerulanean blue too.

Hmm - now let's think.... (mouse cursor hovers over voting options......) Right - done. I've gone for the 'D' (now, why doesn't that surprise anyone?) - essentially on the basis of the current stocks and little experience of 'taking notice' of the older stocks as, in those days, I was simply a 'punter' and took no notice of the older stocks on which I travelled and commuted But of course the 38TS and 60TS are superb, in preservation, and I'm sure we'll find an influx of Cravens members popping up to vote for the latter!

Point of pedantry here. The experimental 1980's tube stock is the same as the 1986 stock, so one of the options should be deleted.

I voted for the COP stock mainly because of happy memories of living in West Kensington as a kid. Interestingly i notice many people have stated it would have been their second choice. It just looked so damn permanent and indestructable (sadly it wasn't).
As an aside my second choice would be the '38 stock

In my many years as a driver, I have driven all of the following in this order:- 1938 1972 CO/CP R C69/77 D 1959 1962 All types of Battery locos 1995 Of all these, I have to say that from my point of view as a driver, the 95's are by far the best. Air-con in the cabs, suspension that gives a nice ride, smooth acceleration, smooth and progressive dynamic braking and a nice cab layout. Yes, many of the old trains were nice in one way or another, but they are / were old and knackered, and I like to be comfortable at work. 95's win.........IMO

If we're talking about comfortable cab environment all of the above reasons are true, but as Q8 has already stated the comfort factor for seated passengers is on the decline.

You cannot insult other people's opinions here.
By all means challenge ideas or suggest new things but do not call other people idiots
Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. You (and I) may not like '83ts but it does not mean that someone who does like them is an idiot.
Get the message? I hope so i.l.t.

I've just been reading up about the new Victoria line stock. 'A new and more comfortable' was part of the description for them. If 'more comfortable' means sitting on a bum numbing slab of foam that may as well not be there then they can keep 'em.

Mine has to be 1959 stock.
My aunt god bless her lived in Morden so District then on the 59.
I loved them
A comfortable
B They had a guard!!!!! smiles all around
C just loved them
I used to travel on them a lot back in 1998 - 1999
I loved it when the guard would puch the buttons and would always have to sit near the guards area.
Sadly though they started to dissapper after time when we wento to vist we waited about 4 trains went by nothing so weh ad to board anyways.
I still love them to this day.
Cheers James

I love all old stock the clank clank bang .
The red paint or the classic silver.
I also like the 1983 stock.
I always thought they were like the district well they were but smaller.
I feel i was in the last generation that had any of the old classic stock.
Or at least oldish to older.
I love un refurbed trains most were back in the 1990's well the older stocks.
I love older trains Br 1st gen DMUS
Or a sight for sore eyes my fav 312's on the fenchurch street line GONE!
Thats why My un - refurb district is precious to me the last remains of olders stock the un painted cars the older shapes seats that actually face the way you are going.
Also i miss on them before they put pizza hut seats in was the Bus pattern seats yellow/gold and black rectangles and the leather near the top Gone.
So in a few years everything i love will be gone.
All i have is un - refurbed D78 and the bub 1st gen DMU between PR and Aylesbury.
Its all gone long live brunnel
Cheers james
