I think I might have seen the refurbished unit near Kilburn on Saturday, however I was on a passing (albeit rather slow moving) Met train at the time so can't give any proper opinions

If you discount the 3 either complete or already being worked on, then the remaining 60 will take 60 months (5 years) if there is no change in the current completion rate. However it seems reasonable to assume the completion rate will pick-up as the supply chain and team doing the work become more familiar, so 5 years is probably quite pessimistic.

I guess you could also shorten the timescale if you skip updating the four brand new 7 car trains added to the fleet in 2005? so about 9 years younger. When the additional trains first arrived they really stood out as brand new compared with the rest of the 96 stock - but by now I would be hard pressed to spot any material difference in terms of wear and tear or cleanliness, hence I had assumed the whole fleet will be done eventually.

The plan is to increase output to one train every two weeks in the near future, now that the concept has been proven and staff are getting into the routine.
The programme shoild be complete by mid-2019, in time for the deadline.

The quality of the upgrade does not appear to be to the same level (not to say it's bad) as that on the Northern line stock. It looks to be a lick of paint, literally. Some of the grey paint was visible on the black window seals. I thought the interior covers were replaced rather than painted over, I understood that's what happened on the Northern line but maybe not? I was on one of the upgraded Jubilee cars today and noticed some of the white paint coming off to reveal the old greenish colour. Not sure how long it will last!
That being said the cars look much more bright and fresh, also had a nice new smell.

On the Northern 95s the inside of the doors were given a grey film, rather than being painted, for example.

This is no longer the case however, as the original units have been coupled to the 2005 build units in recent times.

what I never understood is why the newer 2005 units use the same traction package as the original batch. Surely this was well obsolete at the time!
Will the additional trains being added in the future have a different traction package?

Small non standard fleet, which would result in two different maintenance regimes, fleet staff having to be trained on both fleets. Higher costs too. Best to have one fleet as standard.

Interesting... I was on the other refurbed unit (not 96005+96060) and the paint job seemed to be of a much higher standard! No overspray/sloppiness etc. Seems a bit hit and miss
