There is too much information I agree - get rid of the step-free blobs (which give an incomplete and inaccurate impression, making it useless) - promote the step-free and avoiding stairs access maps instead. This allows you to simplify stations like Waterloo and Westminster as a bonus. Get rid of the advert and move the "check before you travel" information to its place (not that there is much once you remove the step free information). Hey presto you have 33% more space instantly. For people who need bigger text - promote the large print version equally. Give each bit of London Overground it's own colour to make the Hackney-Dalston area much clearer.
While to us enthusiasts LU, LO, TfL and the DLR are all conceptually different, to the average punter they're all just different lines of the same system.

Agree with all you say but will probably need to introduce stripes as there are not enough colours available for all different lines/branches.

Why stripes? It already has tramlines, and TfL Rail shows they are happy to have different colour tramlines on the same map, so for example ELL/SLL: Orange tramliness NLL/WLL: Red tramlines Watford DC: Green tramlines West Anglia: Black tramlines / Pink tramlines (I think showing the Chingford services as a separate line to the Enfield/Cheshunt services would show the non-stopping at Cambridge Heath and London Fields clearer than daggers (it works for the Picc and District / Met and Jubilee). Romford/Upminster: Silver tramlines

That's good, because the pretence LO is one homogenous whole is another beef I have with its' presence on the Tube map.
I'd suggest you could either use the shift-key keyboard symbols in black to delineate the various lines between the orange line:
----------------------------------- -------------------------------- ************************ AND ++++++++++++++++++ ETC ----------------------------------- --------------------------------
or put the Tube Line colours as a broken line of dots eg .............................
between the orange lines, depending upon which Tube line that branch of LO principally interchanges.
Sorry this is a bit rough & ready, but thought it might be worth trialing it & it actually doesn't look too busy, the symbols especially.

Romford/Upminster: Silver tramlines I suggested this a while ago, although I would keep the red tramlines away from the Central Line, which suggests using them on the Watford route, keeping NLL/WLL orange, and using green for the West Anglia group (well away from the District) and purple for the WLL/SLL (away from the Met). You didn't mention the Goblin or Emerson, and I've run out of colours that don't clash with something it crosses (unless we use W&C teal!)

I did forget the Goblin (perhaps Met maroon?) But suggested silver for Em Emerson Park (I just called it Romford-Upminster)

Personally I think the "Tube map" should just have LUL, DLR and Tramlink services, with Overground only appearing in the full "London's Rail & Tube Services" map, in various different colours, like the lines used to be before TfL takeover. Ok maybe it is very cluttered too, especially the Southern and Southeastern web of branches, but at least it doesn't leave much of outer London and even inner London "invisible". But we all know the likelihood of the full Rail & Tube map being promoted. It is already very difficult to find one in print, having found it by chance at Liverpool Street on Thursday after looking around various stations. It is in A2 size, but that is the smallest reasonable size without being too small. TfL will continue to hide the National Rail services it doesn't run, so it will remain difficult for people to plan journeys using the quickest route. People will continue to use long winded TfL-run routes where National Rail routes by other operators exist but aren't promoted (like my Hounslow area to Vauxhall example posted earlier). So much for being "Transport FOR LONDON" . Maybe I should stop my rant there.

Is there going to be a paper version of the night tube map? If by paper version you mean a pocket map then yes. Tfl sent me a JPEG of it.
