I did have a snigger at the drain/brown/sewage joke. Trouble is, I was in a bit of a whimsical mood, and your phrase 'the color brown' put me in mind of a film title from some years ago, 'The Color Purple', which had the same odd spelling.
Unfortunately, others thought I was referring to 'the colour purple' on the Tube map, which may have confused matters, and rather spoiled the humour, such as it was.
