is that a dent on the driver's side of 7065? The post on the track may be playing illusive tricks in respect of reflection. I don't think it's a reflection - looking at it enlarged the marks on the cab front look like a battle scar www.flickr.com/photos/11926838@N03/14971283667/lightbox/ The second photo in the previous post, of 7516, shows the same dirty marks - corrosion? - around the end-door, as I remarked on for 7510. www.flickr.com/photos/jaggers/14356999850/in/set-72157627281304537Indeed quite a few of the double-enders seem to have them, but I can't find any single-enders with it. Is this a consequence of being sometimes in the middle of the train? Or something to do with the different coupling design (auto instead of emergency?) Or the different aerodynamics caused by the flanges for the side guards?

I fear that the events in Paris could deal a fatal blow to the project due to paranoia combined with my poor general health: what @dlj83 said at www.districtdavesforum.co.uk/post/401448/thread worries me because it seems paranoia is growing. Also, I have been told that very strict health & safety guidelines means that LTM Acton is out of bounds to me when the withdrawn vehicles come in, so I may have to depend on the scrap runs, possibly at Ealing Common. I am nearly at the end of the struggle for the single-ended units, all I need now is 7010 and 7064 (hopefully by the end of this week) before I have something publishable: every single-ended unit and one side of each double-ended unit. Current status (click image to enlarge):

That would be a real shame. As has been suggested, approaching station supervisors to explain what you're up to would avoid any awkward encounters with over-officious officials. It might help to have printed copies of examples of your work with you, to help explain what you're trying to do. At worst, you can move on and see if the next supervisor up the line is more sympathetic. You'll be less conspicuous waiting at a busy interchange station like Earls Court, where you will not be the only person letting trains go without getting on. Once you've identified which way your quarry is going, you can follow down the line to a better vantage point to take its photo on its way back. And of course if you can find a vantage point on public land, away from TfL property, their bylaws don't apply. They basic rule is that if you can see it, you can take its picture, unless a bylaw specifically forbids it. If people don't want pictures taken of their property, they shouldn't leave it out where the public can see it!

I have a feeling that the first two units to go have already been decided as 7056+7085 these have been stabled on the alps for a considerable time and there has been a lack of serviceable D's on occasion meaning a S has been sent out in its place

It's weird but it turns out they were just worried about my safety. Extra Extra: I didn't manage to finish the previous Extra before we entered the tunnel at Bow.

Current status (click image to enlarge): I don't think the Paris murders should have too much bearing on taking photos on the Underground. Certainly no official guidance has been issued (to staff) which specifically mentions that photography is prohibited. LUL already had security measures in place, and has had for some years. The only difference you might encounter is staff being more interested in what you are doing, however any approach from staff should take the form of a friendly, polite, conversation, and providing you are not breaching any byelaws or causing a safety issue, then there should be no problem. Given what happened in Paris, I'd be reluctant to approach anyone who I genuinely thought might be a terrorist.

Several c stock cars left from the museum. I would not be surpised if they withdraw from several places like Acton works, Musuem, Northwood possibly

I've done it: I photographed 7064 on train 013 at Putney Bridge, which means that I have EVERY motor-car from the single-ended units, and at least one motor car from each double-ended unit. Photo coming after morning tea. Extra: Not just 7064, also 7534

Isn't that East Putney not Putney Bridge?

A sheer majority of the D78 fleet are usually out and about during the peak hours: that is, when the customers need their services the most. It also holds a better probability of locating the remaining D78 motors. Even at this stage I can achieve about two previously unseen ones in one session, weather pending.

Isn't that East Putney not Putney Bridge? I appear to have written that reply with great haste (as in too quickly), albeit the Flickr description is correct. As a major update, all the remaining D78 double ended units are done, albeit some are in the middle: this means that there will be less pressure, and no disappointment if the operator never steps into the cab of the said motors again. Photos will follow later. Antje Extra: here they are: 7503 7512 7515 (and the last one) 7518 7521 7522 (turns out I already got that) 7527 7529 BONUS: 17008 (I have the interiors but I have yet to process those) Although I have all the motor cars, this is not the end of this project because the withdrawals have only just started last week and there is plenty of time before the last one leaves: there is now plenty of breathing space so that the risk of missing cars is now zero. I may post better versions of the motor cars if such opportunity occurs. I also plan to get some Vivarail examples if that plan succeeds.

When the d78's go from LUL it will not be the end of them because someone is going to put diesel engines in them and run them elsewhere in the uk

Hi, at the moment the project focuses on DMs at home territory: while we have moved to the top-up phase with the whole set already complete (see www.flickr.com/photos/jaggers/sets/72157627281304537/), there have been delays to starting the top-up phase because of the cold weather (not everyone can easily cope with single digit temperatures).

You are not the only one with whom Arctic winds do not agree! I'd want my own Costa sit-in booth on any platform from which I was photographing-complete with suitably clean windows, of course. Don't worry-it will get warmer, the weather forecast shows winds veering to from the South from Wednesday, which might make some difference.
