For all we might criticise, I have to say that the Chingford-Loughton replacement bus service worked very well this evening. Please can we have it for other disruption (planned and unplanned) on the Central rather than just all stations to Leytonstone services. I remember a replacement bus service operating to Walthamstow Central during a weekend closure a couple of years ago that also worked well, I believe. This might well be a common arrangement. I'm not sure what's planned for the forthcoming closures on the east end of the line.

The 20 provides a regular service between Loughton and Walthamstow, and I've seen it strengthened during closures but don't recall there being replacement buses on the route. Its possible of course that Walthamstow wasn't a useful destination for me that weekend so didn't pay much attention.

They were of course not Railway Replacement Bus Services (as the line was theoretically open), but instead labeled as 'Specials'. Originally the buses ran just Epping - Chingford which is roughly a 20 min journey off peak. However when they suspended the Eastern branches all together, we were asked to divert via Loughton. There is a plan for future engineering work on 04/05 October to run a similar Epping - Debden - Loughton - Chingford service. Dean

On the other hand I may have just wrongly assumed they were replacement buses - I didn't actually use them. I do, though, remember going from Canons Park to Edgware during a Northern line closure, where replacement buses were operating in tandem with the standard local bus service. I waited a while before deciding to just get on one of the local buses

Tut - it certainly has been done. There was one we did possibly late last year, maybe early this year which ran Loughton (all stations inc Roding Valley) to Snaresbrook, then Walthamstow. Only problem with Walthamstow is lack of space for RR buses laying over. Stations like Blackhorse Road are preferred as they have large station car parks, however access to eastbound buses means crossing a busy road. Therefore last time we ran dead to/from Blackhorse Road to Walthamstow Central.

Still think it's a little off that TfL do not refund for delays caused due to strikes, which are something they have sway over! That would require Management to publicly accept that their actions played a part in the strike action being called, and that they aren't just innocents being unreasonably held to ransom by those horrible unions (whatever your view on each dispute, it does take two to tango). For all we might criticise, I have to say that the Chingford-Loughton replacement bus service worked very well this evening. Please can we have it for other disruption (planned and unplanned) on the Central rather than just all stations to Leytonstone services. Agree with your suggestion completely and as a matter of fact sent it in to TfL on Friday evening.
