I assume this is the most appropriate place for this? Please move if you think necessary.
Hamleys toy store in Regent Street has converted its basement floor into an Underground-themed sales area, featuring “a driver’s cab from an old Bakerloo and Victoria Line train”. In fact the cab is 1972 MkI Tube Stock that was converted for use on the Victoria Line in 1987-89 and was then confined to the middle of train formations. It’s history is thus “from an old Northern and Victoria Line train”. Despite extensive searching on, around and in the cab, there is no trace of the former car number. Hamleys have no idea as to the previous identity of the part-car and TfL were unable to help with its history - in fact there was little interest about its origin on their part. The car number on the corner of 1760 bears no relation to its former identity. Can anyone please help with tracking down the car involved?

Interesting. Did you get a photo of the train cab?
The number is that from a 1959/62 stock car (can't remember which one).

It is either 3214 or 3314, the ones cut off the 4-car unit that donated spares for the AIT, so ex-Northern line only. We couldn't keep them at Northfields anymore so they got passed on for further use. They were originally kept for cab spares and to trial the positioning of a tunnel scanning laser, which was eventually descoped. The other cab is supposed to form a similar exhibition at their store in Dubai. I know which one we will rob for spare parts if required Regards, Dan

Photo in the May Underground News. Thank you Dan. I have in my notes "DERA Shoeburyness to Engineering Services for equipment stripping & scrap" for both 3214 (23/8/07) and 3314 (17/4/07). I love it when a plan (or even a query!) comes together.

Is there a small metal plate near the driver's position showing data such as the Car Number, Batch Number and Date of manufacture etc? (A bit like the Vehicle Identification Plate on the family car under the bonnet near the windscreen).

I thought the only ways you could tell are: "under the hood", in the cab (presence of the manual buttons) and if it has the digital train number display in the offside window

The 67s had yellow calling on light, the 72 MkIs did not.

I thought the only ways you could tell are: "under the hood", in the cab (presence of the manual buttons) and if it has the digital train number display in the offside window Studying photographs it would appear that 1967 stock had a round aperture above the driver's side window, lacking on the 1972 stock as built. Later (post refurb) photos show 1972 stock having apertures above both cab windows. Post refurbishment there appears to be a step under the non-driver's side of 1967 stock, and both sides on the 1972 stock. As for numbers, look at the SECOND digit. 0 or 1 is 1967 stock, 2,3,4,5 is 1972 stock. 1967 stock was numbered in the 30xx, 40xx, 41xx, 31xx series, whilst 1972 stock was numbered in the 32xx, 42xx, 43xx, 33xx, 34xx, 45xx, 35xx series

Yes the MK2 and mk1 stock on the Bakerloo were fitted late. The difference between the mark 1 and 2 stick used to be the lack of set number box on the M door. Some Bakerloo trains have it which give them away as ex northern stock

The 1972 Mk IIs were the only ones originally to have handrails beneath the cab windscreens and a footstep on each side.
