Unfortunately, I have to be the bearer of some very sad news. SE13 passed away this morning (23/10). Rest in well-deserved peace, good friend. The Forum Staff will update as soon as we know anything further.

I'm in shock... Chris was an unstinting supporter of the forum and the Underground.
Over the years he did an awful lot of unseen work behind the scenes.
I was proud and lucky to have known him - RIP Sir.
Admin/Mod decision - we've unlocked this thread so that members can post their thoughts... much in the same way when District Dave passed away...

Although I never actually met Chris in person, he was a great help to me. The amount of 'behind the scenes' work that Chris did for this forum was incredible. He was one of the first few members of this board in 2005.
RIP Chris.

It's difficult to believe that he's gone. He was one of the nicest, most genuine people I've ever had the pleasure to have met and it is heartwarming to see the tributes to him on Facebook and here from all the people who he helped over his life. And I have to include myself in that number for all the hard work he put into the quiz over the years.
RIP

Chris was a lovely and thoughtful guy.
There is more that I could say about the respect and support he gave me at a time when I was not expecting it, but this seems too public a place to say it.
I will miss him online and at our meets.

There's much I want to say, but I've spent twelve hours now and I still can't think of anything that makes a coherent post - so here's my best stab at it:
SE13 is member number seventeen of this forum, which as of now has over one thousand one hundred members; it is because of the likes of he that this place exists - after all, he approved my membership! He will be sorely missed at this Christmas' Forum Meet, I know he was looking forward to once more visiting his home town.
Chris won't rest in peace, he'll be forever cheering his belovéd Arsenal.

Oh my goodness, what terrible news. I only met SE13 once when we had a long and amiable chat at the 2012 Christmas meet. Life dealt him a few curved balls but he played them all with a straight bat. He was passionate about the railways, buses and Arsenal Football Club and always willing to help and to share his knowledge. A genuinely nice guy, this forum will be all the poorer without him.

Even sadder considering his young age and the fact that he has a young family to whom I offer my sincere condolences.

I was so shocked to read this this morning that I couldn't reply that instant!
He always made me welcome despite our rivalry on football!
I never got to meet him sadly.
RIP mate

I can't quite believe the news.
I had the privilege to meet Chris in person at several forum meets. He was a lovely, genuinely down to earth guy, always willing to help a fellow human being. He also did a lot of unseen work on the staff side which greatly helped the forum. Despite having had a quite a few knocks in recent years, he still managed to pick himself up and carry on with life. He will be sadly missed.
RIP Chris

Others have said what I feel doubtless more eloquently than I. Many hours over the years were spent conversing with Chris, on the chat thread and by pm. It turned out after a discussion on here that we actually knew of each other - or we passed in the street every Friday (Chris worked for a tea delivery firm at the time; I would habitually walk a certain way at the time he was making his deliveries). Indeed, he had a lot of trouble over the past few years but was forever trying to get back on the road - literally as well as metaphorically. Any member who joined in the last few years quite probably had their account approved by Chris, who would spend hours studiously checking to ensure that spammers and the like did not gain access. My condolences to his family.

Sad news. Only ever managed to speak to Chris once (as far as I'm aware, there may have been other occasions at other meets), which was by phone, whilst running very late for a forum meet to check there were still members in the pub! Rest in peace.

I'm obviously very sad about this: life seemed to give him a few knocks but he always seemed to pick himself up and I was always impressed by his decisions and advice on the forum. I think I got to 'know' him best through the chat area on here which was really very busy a couple of years ago - he was a genuinely nice bloke who, I think it's fair to say, wore his heart on his sleeve and I'm sad that I won't be seeing him again. The sheer number of comments on Facebook also show that many, many people felt the same way.

I never met Chris in person, but I have had the pleasure of sharing some discussions with him on this forum (mainly rants) and you could tell from his style of posting that he was a good guy, even if life hadn't treated him particularly well over the last few years. Rest In Peace Chris.

I had an email this evening from a former regular member on the Forum here, Rich, otherwise known as Whistlekiller, who also wished for his condolences to be passed on.

Only just noticed this thread. Couldn't believe what I was reading. Chris was a rock to this site, and it wouldn't be what it is today without his input and vision. As others have said, 45 is no age whatsoever. My condolences go out to his family. RIP.
