Hi all Traveled past Neasden Depot twice today. The first time I noticed the A Stock that is still there was in the actual depot building, I'm assuming some sort of maintenance was being carried out on it. The second time it was parked up outside with its lights on as if ready to move on to somewhere. Just wondering what work was being carried out to it and why? I'm assuming it is for leaf clearing duties as we are now getting nearer that time of the year but just wondering if anyone can confirm this? Thanks kabsonline

when A stocks was around - there two or three could work clearing the leaves off in service but now S stocks around means there need a new leave cleaning units (simllar to A stock)

IIRC the S-Stock have de-icing equipments fitted, but the A-Stock is still needed as the RAT to prevent leafy problems occuring.

There are two A stocks all the time at Neasden. 5110 is currently being used for training, and will form the RAT shortly.
5234 is on standby for RAT duties as and when required.

Talking of A-Stock, I saw a train made up of around 5 cars turn in the Uxbridge platform this afternoon at HOTH. It came in the 'wrong' way from a siding, and then was driven out northbound again. It wasn't labelled as a RAT, but did seem to have odds & ends in it (lighting) as well as something quite big which I couldn't identify.

The car in question is 6036 and usually reads RAIL ADHESION CAR on the side in place of one of the 'Underground' roundels. The unit had probably come of the uxbridge branch and was heading up the northbound towards Northwood. Last year the RAT used to spend a bit of time in the siding at Harrow between duties. Good spot

Ah, I must have missed the RAT sign! It was a very pleasant surprise!

Ah, I must have missed the RAT sign! It was a very pleasant surprise! Definitely the RAT - I saw it twice yesterday, southbound on the Fast lines through Wembley at about 0925, and then again southbound on the local line at Moor Park at about 2045. It's got "Rail Adhesion Train" down the side, and what looks to be a big stack of cardboard boxes inside...

Are the A Stock RAT times similar to those posted on the forum last year?

There was an A stock berthed at Neasden yesterday that had been tagged and graffitied quite badly. I didn't get the number and didn't see the Rail Adhesion Train lettering. Anyone know what happened? A terrible shame in any case.

If it was an A stock it can only be 5234, unless 5112 has been moved from Acton. Not happy to hear this.

I went past again this morning, and the train I saw had been tagged is in fact a C stock - not A stock. I obviously need new specs! I guess it's on its way to Northwood for a date with Alleleys?

From what I remember whilst working over the weekend... 5509+5585, 5548+5577 and 5234 were all tagged over a period of a few days.
There were complaints made about them being on display to the running line, but nothing was done because there was allegedly no space within the yard to put them out of sight.
One of the better Duty Depot Managers returned from leave during the latter part of the weekend, unimpressed by what had happened, and made arrangements for the stock to be accommodated on the other side of the building and 5234 is on the North, with one of the C stocks on the South, and one having gone for scrap. Can't really post a picture here (and I wouldn't want to anyway), but 5234 has gone from having just the one or two tags over 1-1 1/2 cars, to a horrible sight that goes across pretty much all 4 cars, some stuff up or past the windows.
5110 doing just fine and when stabled at Neasden and Watford, probably due to the fact it's not really still for very long when out doing sandite duties.

I saw an A60 poking it's head out of one of the shed roads near to the running line this afternoon, it was clear of graffiti, so one assumes this was 5110, or has 5234 been cleaned?

The graffiti covered A stock is back by the Neasden train wash again. Anybody know when it will get cleaned up? A few mins ago, the headlights facing into the train wash were on. Maybe it's about to be moved or perhaps left on in error. Hope the battery doesn't go flat

Still there is same state today, with headlights still on. Was it my eyes playing tricks on me, or were there a few bits missing from the inside of it?

I passed Neasden today and the A Stock was still outside the washing plant covered in graffiti with its headlights and still lights on Let's hope that it is cleaned up soon

Train remains by the wash as mentioned, and has done so since last week. I can only assume the reason that the headlights were left on in the south end cab is part deterrent, though this hasn't really worked as the headstock on that end has now been thoroughly graffitied with bright green paint, given the fact the train hasn't moved since being put on the wash road.
Annoyingly, the engineers' road all the way on the other side of the depot continues to remain empty, unless they stick the RAT in there as was the case earlier. And seeing as both trains had spent the better part the year stuck up there before this year's leaf fall season, why 5234 wasn't just left there is beyond me. Ho hum.

Hi folks,
Just heard a worrying suggestion on ye olde flickr that 5234 may be going to get scrapped. Sure, wouldn't 5112 go ahead of it if this was the case?

That would be crazy especially as it was mostly part of the first train in service.

Interesting if there was a train of 8 or 9 A stock cars. I predicted after the last scrap run to Northwood that it would be the last time we would see an 8 car A stock train.
