Me and my mom are going to London in October on holiday. We arrive at Gatwick late Thursday evening and want to go to our hotel at Prince Regent.
What's the transfer time: London Bridge: National Rail northbound -> Jubilee eastbound Canning Town: Jubilee eastbound -> DLR eastbound (High Level) Canning Town: Jubilee eastbound -> DLR eastbound (Low Level) Victoria: National Rail northbound -> Circle/District eastbound Westminster: Circle/District eastbound -> Jubilee eastbound Tower Hill/Tower Gateway: Circle/District eastbound -> DLR eastbound
Please note that we're going to travel weekday late evening - so there's no crowd. We prefer only to use escalators and elevators. We can use stairs, but we don't want to use the long ones.
Thanks for answers

We prefer only to use escalators and elevators. We can use stairs, but we don't want to use the long ones. Thanks for answers. To give a meaningful answer it would be worth understanding how much luggage you will be carrying and whether you are both fit and can walk at a reasonable speed. The other factor is where you get on the National Rail service at Gatwick. These trains can be long - up to 12 carriages so the walking time at Victoria or London Bridge will vary depending on which carriage you get on. It is worth noting that even late evening you will find stations and trains are busy so do not assume there are no crowds! If you travelling close to midnight then you will find people dashing for late or last trains! Also London Bridge main line station and Victoria underground have big construction works going on so it takes a bit more time to get through them. I have taken a reasonably generous view of the time needed as I've assumed you will have luggage and be unfamiliar with the stations. You can see plans of the National Rail Stations on the National Rail website - just enter the station name in the box on the web page. London Bridge: National Rail northbound -> Jubilee eastbound - 10-12 minutes there are ramps or stairs in the main line station and escalators / lifts in the tube station. Canning Town: Jubilee eastbound -> DLR eastbound (High Level) - 5 minutes there are lifts and escalators on this interchange route Canning Town: Jubilee eastbound -> DLR eastbound (Low Level) - 7 minutes there are escalators down but stairs up to the DLR platform. There are lifts down and back up. Victoria: National Rail northbound -> Circle/District eastbound - 10-13 minutes note there are only steps on this interchange and no lifts at Victoria Underground. Westminster: Circle/District eastbound -> Jubilee eastbound - 5-6 minutes there are escalators and lifts on this interchange route. Tower Hill/Tower Gateway: Circle/District eastbound -> DLR eastbound - 15-20 minutes. This is a long interchange as you have to leave the tube station walk in the street and through a subway link to reach the DLR. There are only stairs at Tower Hill and only stairs on the subway link. There are escalators and a lift at Tower Gateway DLR. I would not recommend using this interchange if you are unfamiliar with this part of London. It would also be awkward with luggage. I'm very happy for other group members to correct any of the above as it is a little while since I have used London Bridge and things may have changed (again) as a result of the reconstruction works.

If changing at Canning Town, the high level platforms are the ones to use as there is a direct lift or escalator connection between them and the Jubilee Line platforms. The low-level DLR platforms are on the same level as the Jubilee so you have to go down to the subway and then back up. The Tower Hill/Tower Gateway connection is all at street level between the ticket halls, but this does involve steps down and crossing a busy road at a pelican crossing Google Street View, Tower Hill station is just visible through the trees to the left. I second the recommendation not to use this with luggage though as there are only stairs at Tower Hill. I would recommend travelling to London Bridge then using the Jubilee Line to Canning Town then the DLR to Prince Regent. This is a much simpler journey than via Victoria and lifts are available for every interchange. This is also the route recommended by the TfL Journey Planner, which gives the total journey time as 55 minutes-1 hour at this time of day. I can recommend the Direct Enquiries site for detailed access information for LU and DLR stations (note that stations served by both are located only in the LU section).

Thanks for the long answer. I'll be in one of the carriages between the middle and the front - probably the 3rd or 2nd one. The London Bridge time sounds real according to my journey back in December. But I don't think that it's going to take 5 minutes to take just one short escalator from the Jubilee Line platform at Canning Town up to the DLR (upper level). When I was in London i made the change from Jubilee to upper level many times - but I didn't made the Jubilee to lower level so much, but I still think that 7 minutes is too much. About the Tower Hill/Gateway thing: I don't think that it'll be smart to change there so I won't - not with all the luggace Given you've done parts of the journey before I am a little bemused as to why you asked about them and then tell me I've got the timings wrong!? I padded the times out because you may be walking more slowly with your mother and with luggage. You may also have to wait for a lift if that is what you decide to use to make a change. Lifts can be well used and you might have to wait a couple of minutes for one to arrive empty / with space and going in the right direction.

+1 Snoggle
And does it really matter if a particular aspect of a journey takes, for example, 7 minutes or 9 minutes? I'd say that Snoggle has given you detailed info here that you probably wouldn't get so easily on other fora. Maybe your next port of call could be the Journey Planner if you feel that the answers so far aren't sufficient.
