I'm trying to recall whether 1972 stock was built with provision for possible future ATO conversion in mind? Yes, although it wasn't fitted with any of the actual equipment. At the time it was hoped the Fleet Line would get ATO, but in the event that never happened. Some of the signals even had blanked-off lunar white aspects.

The main difference between them was then they were new was that the 67 stock was ATO but the 72 stock used Guards as normal. As I recall, the guards panels (and shunting control panels for the UNDMs) were recovered from withdrawn 1949 stock

Well known fact but the selector barrel on the MK2 72TS has still has 'Auto' as a position.
The selector barrel on the MK2's also have only one 'Forward' position, with a switch on the side control panel to switch between 'Forward1' and 'Forward 2', whereas both forward rates are on the selector barrel on MK1's.
Having driven on the Bakerloo during my Apprenticeship, I found that one of the easiest mistakes to make when driving a MK1 was moving the selector from 'Int' into what I thought was 'Forward2', but then after a few seconds of sluggish acceleration, realising what I had done wrong and knocking it forward another position into what was actually 'Forward2'. Have to say moving the selector key between positions is one of the most satisfying feelings, an absolute joy!

I was at Harrow and W'stone last week and noted that 3560 had a proper wedgelock coupler - studs and all! Is this a one off or a spare D stock couplers starting to replace the old mechanical couplers for example?

www.londonreconnections.com/2016/extending-bakerloo-not-transport/according to this link, the bakerloo line trains are currently undergoing a "major refurbishment", i am yet to see one of these, any ideas as to what has been changed? I thought the work wasnt as big as was previously suggested in this thread, some of the trains still carry the night tube launch in September adverts and i saw one the other day with a map near the drivers door that still doesnt include the WA lines to London Overground! Something will have to be done soon i think even though I prefer them retaining their interior vintage look!

i saw one the other day with a map near the drivers door that still doesnt include the WA lines to London Overground!! Hardly a top priority to fix that, I'd have thought. This is presumably the Central London map which only goes out as far as Bethnal Green or so. I'm struggling to think of many journeys that would include both the Bakerloo and the WA lines out of Liverpool Street. Even if you start at Regents park, the quickest route is to walk 100 yards down the road to GtPtSt.

As I recall, the guards panels (and shunting control panels for the UNDMs) were recovered from withdrawn 1949 stock I was under the impression that the panels were from 38ts but perhaps they were the same type of panels anyway. I appear to have been mistaken. The 1949 stock consisted of 70 UNDMs and 21 trailers. As guards travelled in the rearmost car of 1938 stock, which was always a DM, the 1949 stock could not have been a source of guards panels. Albeitmoresoever, some 1938 stock NDMs used for the nine-car project did have guards panels (coded SNDM) so the guard could ride in the seventh car - and thus be on the platform even when a nine-car train was standing at a seven car platform - and these SNDMs were later converted to UNDMs 30000-21, along with the new-build UNDMs of 1949 stock (30022-45, 31000-45). So shunt control panels were fitted to some cars of 1938 stock. I don't know what happened to the redundant guard's panels in the SNDMs when they were converted to UNDMs. If they were left in situ, they could have found their way, along with the shunt control panels, into 1972 stock. But perhaps the conversion involved replacing one with the other?

Maybe the guards panels from SNDMs went to the 9-car DMs (ex-90324-90333 and 91324-91333 and became 10324-10333 and 11324-11333) which did not have them as 9-car DMs?

There's supposed to be some new seating moquette on the 1972s but (unless I have missed it in another post?) I haven't seen any reports of it yet.

I seem to recall vaguely somewhere that the 72 was to be fitted with a "striking new brown moquette" has this materialised yet or not?
Edit: OMG beaten to the post by a few seconds!

Edit: OMG beaten to the post by a few seconds! I struggle to see how anything brown can be classed as "striking".

Edit: OMG beaten to the post by a few seconds! Ah yes here we go:
"During November 2015 we will begin to replace the seat cushion and back fabric with a striking new brown moquette design. Seating will be complete by April 2016 if the supplier delivers at the agreed rate."

Hopefully they're not making the seats rock hard and uncomfortable, as seems to be the current trend. Part of the stock's appeal is it still has its comfy seats!

From memory it is getting the Landmark / Barman moquette, but with a more brown palette consistent with the LU map line colour.

I thought the point of Barman was to come up with a standard design that reflected London and would be used across everything?
Don't wish to be rude but it screams of indecision/hypocrisy if on the one hand line identities are supposedly being played down, but on the other are commissioning bespoke elements. #bringbacktheMetCrest

Sounds like the usual yoyo of localism vs standardisation and efficiencies of scale.

But I do think that if they were going to do this, it should have been done on all of the lines. Come to think of it, a simple way to individualise the moquettes for each line would have been to change the highlight colour as used for the London eye Coca-Cola London eye, and the little dots in the adjacent square. If you change these to be the line colour, I think it could work quite well, although it might prove problematic with the Piccadilly line!

My understanding (and I apologise if this has been said before) is that the moquette on the Met, District, Circle and H&S, had the colours representing each line in the pattern.

All this effort going into discussions about maquette, but will the trains stil be working in ten years time . . .

Well, the a60 stock managed 50 and the 38 stock also did, surely the 72ts can last? As far as I am aware they are not of an unreliable design?

At this rate they will be well over 50, probably nearer 60!

1972 tube stock mk2 was built with wiring for ATO, original Victoria line style, that is.
