After using the tube for decades I have only ever experienced trains overshooting the platforms on the met line. However, until today the worst I have seen is the first set of doors have stopped beyond the platforms. Today I was a bit shocked when shortly before 7pm I was on an Uxbridge bound train that overshot the Preston Road platforms by what looked like at least 2 full carriages. I could see the blue 3 marker out the window which suggests that it could have been as far as 3 carriages. The train operator declared that this was due to a technical issue so I was surprised that the train was not taken out of service at Harrow but continued to Uxbridge.
It was a strange overshoot as in my experience on the A stock, it is usually preceeded by noticeably hard breaking as the operator realises that they have come into the platform too hot, but on today's S8 the breaking seemed to be just regular breaking.
Does anyone know what might have happened and has anyone experienced a worse overrun of a platform?

Many years ago (mid '70s), on the Victoria line, we were coming in to Green Park the train appeared to be slowing as normal when there was an almighty release of air and the train ground to a halt, throwing everyone standing forward quite dramatically, with ~ 2/3 or the first carriage in the tunnel. No announcement was made and the train continued normally - at least as fare as Warren Street where I de-trained.

I was on that train, it was definitely quite an overshoot.. There was at least one other person in the cab, is it possible that the driver was just distracted?

Perhaps there was some sort of Braking Problem requiring some element of the braking to be released and the train was being run in service to depot, although I'd imagine that if a braking circuit was cut out, it would have to be out of service to depot.

If it was a damp morning, possibly wheel slide protection kicked in if the driver had left it a bit late? Have known of trains on the Vic line going 2, 3 or 4 cars past due to WSP activity first thing in the morning when trackworkers have been out with trolleys with greasy wheels!

Tottenham Hale northbound springs to mind from my experience, not exactly what you need to wake you up at 5.20 in the morning!
