There is one thing I can't understand, when travelling by tube, I often see people place their wallets in the back jeans pockets (no zip or button), and leave it visible for pickpockets to have a go at.
Why can't people take notice of the Police posters on the stations, advising people to keep their wallet in a safer place, like the inside pocket of their jacket etc?
The tube will be a safer place, if people did the sensible thing - pickpockets will find it much harder to work!

Several years ago, my wife bought me a front pocket wallet that I now use religiously. One of the short sides has an angle to it that slips down neatly in an angled front pocket.
Reminds me of when I was a teenager in Madrid Spain. We used to go to the Rastro outdoor flea market on Sundays. It was notorious for pickpockets. We always carried our ID and money in the top of our sock. One time I had bought some plastic dog poo. It was in a bag, so I just put it in my front pants pocket. Wouldn't you know - it got picked. My brother and I had a good laugh over that - imagining the villain later opening up the bag to see what he had gained.

I must be the luckiest Londoner alive having never been pickpocked or burgaled. On the tube I always put my wallet into my front pocket or coat, and I do about a million security checks before leaving the flat.
Now pressing everything wooden...

I've never had any problems in London. I'm not reckless but I don't go overboard about protecting my wallet or camera either. Believe it or not SE13, the only time I've had any issues was in Lincoln when I was mugged for my phone on the steep path behind the police station(!).

I was also mugged in Lincoln for £200 which I'd just taken out of the Halifax bank on The Cornhill, and the security cameras were all pointing another direction. The muggers even ran down a dead end alley but got away before I could stop them. I've been a lot more street wise since then, and very over protective with my possessions.

Muggers, pickpockets, burglars, scammers are all the same as far as I'm concerned, they should all do time and it should be proportionate to the hardship caused!
