I'm impressed with this diagram; www.massingbird.com/, it shows 'outside' thinking. With all the Great Circles I suspect the designer is a mariner. Nice to see provision for cable-car lines. San Francisco look out; we're coming back! Interesting, a shame that Paddington hasn't been labelled though!

I have done what class413 suggested and saved it. I must admit that although I was born in London and lived there for 34 years I never really grasped the complexity of mainline line rail services in and around London, particularly south of the river. As a matter of interest are there any other cities with such a comprehensive heavy rail network. Paris has quite a complex network but with more cross city routes than London. Tokyo has a hugely complex network with trains of various railway companies working through the Subway tunnels as well as there being a circular (Yamanote) line and east - west Chuo line. Immensely complicated and quite amazing to travel on. Thankfully there is English language signage on the system which assists in getting around but you do need to pay attention about what train to catch. I think it would take an enormous amount of time to assimilate the network. Someone has done a LU style network map for Greater Tokyo if you want to be bamboozled! www.flickr.com/photos/kzaral/3373021846/sizes/o/Just looked at the Tokyo map that snoggle put the link in for. Bamboozled is not the word. Totally mind blown. But does this map cover a lot bigger area than the TfL map that we are talking about.

^^I think it's a 'Greater Tokyo' map, much like the 'Great London' railway map.
Also Tokyo has a much larger population than London. 30 million vs 7 million I believe.

^^I think it's a 'Greater Tokyo' map, much like the 'Great London' railway map. Yes, it is. It includes JR and the really fast trains, so it is like including NR on the Tube Map (London Connections/Oyster services map)...

Yes, right back into the dim-distant, LU used to release two maps -the familiar pocketsize LU only map, and big "London Connections" map. The .pdf link above is merely the current interpretation of 'london connections'.
As said, the NR lines should either all be there or none of them. With things as they are (and were) users have a choice as to which suits their needs better..........though I'd be the first to admit the full map is not advertised the way it should be.
