A London comparison might be Crystal Palace,where the Low Level station is still in use (and under LO its future is looking very bright) while the High Level station struggled on into the 50s before being closed,and the demolition and decay lasted decades.

And what about the original Alexandra Palace branch (that didn't become part of the Northern line)?
But perhaps a closer similarity is Wembley Stadium (LNER) and its loop.

Re-Munich, I assume this was on the main line (suburban or S-Bahn) railway? I haven't heard of any U-Bahn sections being abandoned. Any thoughts please?
