Reminds me, whatever happened to the FTR that pretended to be a tram?

There are FTR buses running every day in Swansea and York (somewhere else too I think) that are an attempt to get a tram-like layout on a bus. Certainly in the case of Swansea it would have been much better value to spend just a little bit more to get a proper tram.

FTRs were playing in Leeds at one point on the number 4 route out to Pudsey.

I feel that the award must go to the Cambridgeshire Misguided Bus (MGB). It used to be a railway line (albeit closed) until somebody in shire hall found a huge (but nowhere huge enough, see high court battle) pot of money that could only be spent on an "innovative transport project". Neither train nor tram were innovative enough, so we get hands-free buses whose turbos sound like they are going to explode on the straight sections. The cycleway is nice though, when it's not flooded.

Adelaide's O-Bahn busway. It's a guided busway that sits on slightly elevated concrete track because the ground it sits on is poor quality. It was going to be a light rail line but they shelved that idea. It is the world's fastest guided busway. It was the longest until the Cambridge one opened fully.
