Has anybody considered reading the paper or, more "in-vogue", surfing the net on a smartphone whilst travelling transversely? Ask the patrons from Epping. They'll be able to explain how to do it and you won't even notice you're going sideways. Piece of cake.......

As if it were possible, they make the s stock look more tacky and cheap day by day. A carriage flooded with handles and maps. They look awful.

The air-conditioning is like turning the sub-surface lines to the Overground. The A Stock has hopper windows so the customers can cool themselves, and of course, aided with water. Now the A Stock is retired and the S Stock will slowly kill posters reminding customers to bring water bottles with them in the subsurface lines. I agree with your reason. They should have maintained the suburban main line feel of the Met, and instead of rubber handles, use fabric handles.

I'm interested in why you think the air conditioning won't keep the passengers much cooler than the hopper windows on A-stock, water or not. If a train is stationary, has failed and there is no power, the hopper windows will do little good anyway.

Ditto, though better than headbutting the dangling knob things they had on the old tube stocks.

The end of water bottle posters on the sub surface - maybe not. I think it is going to be interesting on the Circle line platforms in the Summer with all the S7s and S8s pumping out hot air con air into the tunnels and platforms. The evening Standard often qoutes high temperatures at St. James's Park station. The Overground class 378s have emergency hopper windows, as well as the air con, but the 378s are a far more substantial EMUs than the S stock.

Problem with the 378's is that they require a T Key to open the hopper windows! I had a boiling hot one (close to being sick/passing out) on Saturday night but couldnt open them even after spying the 'hidden catch' to release the window
