On the London news on Monday 1st October, following a piece about the number of bridges in north-west London that will require widening for HS2, stated that Euston station will (as close as I can remember the quote) "need to be redeveloped to cope with the massive overcrowding on both the Victoria and the Central Line". What can you do with him, eh?

Very little until May 2016 unless his ambition drives him to jog off to Westminster through a bye-election or at the next General Election. Other than that we're stuck with a Mayor/TfL chairman who famously doesn't do detail and knows as much about the Tube as the squirrels currently romping up and down the trees outside my window.

Actually, the Mayor's Office is pushing central government very hard to support Crossrail 2, and frankly at this stage of the debate, it is far more about a vision than hard facts. The change of the Transport Secretary may be positive for CR2 as the previous one was dead set against it. We don't know the new ones opinion yet though.

As I understand it the push for CR2 is linked with HS2, the argument being that the Northern and Central, er sorry, hard fact alert, Victoria Lines at Euston would be unable to cope with the extra passengers. The problem is that there are doubts about the projected figures supporting HS2 and if it doesn’t go through the case for CR2 is weakened. We know very little about the current Secretary as he’s been a whip since 1995 and famously they don’t express any opinion other than the party line. His interview with the ES didn’t offer much insight either www.standard.co.uk/news/politics/i-wasnt-made-transport-secretary-to-push-through-third-runway-at-heathrowall-options-are-on-the-table-8181588.html
