The museum have been aware of this for a while now, I understand the cuts may be achieved by downsizing or doing away altogether with the temporary staff. The worst that could happen is the complete closure of the Covent Garden museum and all vehicles and exhibits moved to Acton.

Would there be space at Acton? I know the Covent Garden isn't an efficient user of its space, but things are pretty rammed at Acton as I remember.

They are aware of that but are adamant nothing will be lost.

Its a great, interesting museum. I always go to the gift shop when in London. The Depot at Acton Town (Action Town as the spouse calls it) is indeed rammed, but very interesting. Probably no room for an addition, unless they go up a story or 2, to move the Covent Garden collection.

I'd love to see the Covent Garden museum expanded to include the nearby(ish) Aldwych station. Although there is a risk that so many visitors would ruin this gem of history. Maybe they could relocate some of the exhibits. Kingsway tunnel? I dunno.

Maybe I should have said partially or wholly relocate to include Aldwych.

Maybe I should have said partially or wholly relocate to include Aldwych. Sorry I misunderstood what you meant. If by doing that would keep the costs down I'm sure they would consider it.

Just an idea, but why not move the whole lot to Acton which is tfl property not rented. and selling anyone who wishes to visit a ticket from any tfl station which includes the entrance fee?The amount of revenue lost by this means would be infinitisimal spread over the total fare take for the day, and would allow much fre-er movement of exhibits for any required reason. The rental saved on a site in central London would also probably cover this and more.(Pay for extending the space at Acton)

As someone who worked at Syon Park when the collection was there, I can confirm that the cost of making Acton suitable for housing the fragile vehicles from Covent Garden would far outweigh the cost savings.

If money and health and safety issues were satisfied the use of Aldwych as an extension to the museum could be very exciting. How about a vintage tube shuttle running on special occasions between Aldwych and Holborn. All self contained and could allow a variety of historic vehicles to be ridden on as part of a historical deep level tube experience. All a big dream of course but not impossible

Boris must be aware of this. His silence on the matter is worrying, does he approve, disapprove or has he no fire in his belly to challenge it.

in NYC - there transit musem dedicated inside disused station - its would be great useage but also at rotterdam - there few musuem trams running on tramway which could be used if we had trains running around on network like older trains on it if closing the covent musem - the space would be wasted and may not be redeveloped in other uses such flats or huge department store problem is Acton is too small to house those - i think they need is keep everything under one roof

Are we OK to be discussing this on here, given that not all volunteers or museum staff have been briefed yet, and what's here is primarily speculation?

Robert Elms and BBC London would be good to contact.
Sean, the TSSA Trade Union and other groups are already informing the public as to what could happen to the LTM, so the more people that know - the better!

Unfortunately not - I will try again next week, Nigel There is Anthony Davis at LBC, who has the late night slot, not as high profile as Nick Ferrari, however something like the LT Museum would be right up his street. Also on Saturday mornings there is Ken Livingstone and David Mellor.

XF I have seen KL at the Museum (after he was Mayor) so he does use it. Ironically he was beside the NB4L mock-up

I've always thought that the museum in Covent Garden was too small. Its well laid out but for £13.50 I could not honestly say its value for money. A large site outside of central London (eg some of the brownfield sites around the Royal Docks) where the full collection could be shown would justify the entry price.
