Yesterday saw the announcement of a Kuju/EA planned simulation: www.railsimulator.com
There is also the new TrainMaster simulation in planning: www.trainmaster.com/tmts.htm.
I doubt very much if any of them will get near to BVE 4 for realism, but I'm willing to be converted!! ;D
