You couldn’t ride the horse either, Section 15 of the byelaws says that “Any person who enters or is on any part of the railway to which the public have access must be on foot”. But you would be on foot - four of them! P.S. How did I miss this great thread the first time round?

I have once when Guarding a train reported to the Line Controller (mrfs42) that my train was delayed due to Shetland Ponies on the line. ... At the risk of going off topic... Animals also impact other forms of transport... One aviation anecdote that gets passed around is this... aviationhumor.net/deer-on-the-runway/(real story) Last year, one of MY friends did have the misfortune to have to make an unplanned landing in a farmers field. About an hour later, a cow keeled over in than adjacent field and died (for which the farmer blamed my friend). Strangely enough about a week or so after that, another friend ended up in a field of peas... Word quickly got passed around our airfield that should anybody else suffer the misfortune to have to make to make an unplanned landing - could they please choose a field of potatoes, to complete our Sunday lunch!

Slightly off topic. When I worked on the Met one morning the following message came over the internal PA system. ( cant quite remember the proper name) " The Chesham branch has been suspended due to a number of cattle on the track" I often wondered what those working in Zone 1 stations thought of that.

I remember being on a London Bridge platform once, when an announcement was made stating that the Bedford - Brighton service had been delayed due to "bovine trespassers"
