When I reached Tower Gateway today, a little after 07:30, the first train out was in 12 minutes - actually it took more like 15.
Some explanation was given but it was not very audible.
Trains were still running in and out of Bank.
What precisely was causing the problems into Tower Gateway? Is there any specific reason why a train could not have been rerouted to shorten this gap in service?
I did hear word of one terminating at Poplar during this time.

I doubt a 3 minute delay is significant enough to start changing the timetable on an adhoc basis.

I concur. The lack of one train at Bank at that time in the morning leaves a six minute headway on plat 9. It only takes a slight delay to balls up the queueing system at Bank in the peak (particularly because of the escalator works) -- a small gathering of disgruntled folk at Tower Gateway is nothing compared to the blockage that can rapidly build up at Bank. IMO it's bad enough when a King George V train pulls up and takes a handful of people off a heaving platform, without exacerbating the situation by trying to placate the problems at Tower Gateway.
Off topic - does anyone know when Tower Gateway closes for redevelopment?

It was not a 3 minute delay though - it was a huge gap in service. The extra 3 minutes was just the end of it.

It's not unusual for there to be a 10 minute headway on services from Tower Gateway, even at that time in the morning. Granted, there was clearly a delay on the inbound service, but as previously mentioned in this thread, diverting a train from Bank wouldn't be a viable option. The only time Tower Gateway is ever stretched for capacity is when there are problems at Bank. Plus, it would involve a mass exodus of people heading into the city changing at Shadwell, potentially causing overcrowding issues on the island platform there when the train would be diverted to Tower Gateway.
A huge gap in service, granted. But far better than the alternatives, IMO. The priority in the peak has to be the Bank - Lewisham route.
