I've noticed recently that since the second new platform has been commissioned, trains seem to be using it in preference to the first platform that was commissioned, anyone know why?

Id say the additional platform is to help in the peak hours as its still mainly single track the whole way to Bow.
Tho the only time Ive used the second was about 9:40am.

i have recently been there anf got really confused because the link isnt well sign posted or they are not in obvious places, is the original platform by platform 5 on the national rail lines still in use?
The service from stratford is also slightly odd aswell because all trains terminate at canary wharf when they could go on further

The service from stratford is also slightly odd aswell because all trains terminate at canary wharf when they could go on further Running more trains south of Canary Wharf in the peaks could increase train congestion, and thus potentially cause delays to much of the system. As far as I am aware the DLR is not busy enough south of Canary Wharf to warrant any extra service. Thus it would be an unnecessary use of rolling stock and staff resources.

My understanding is there isn't enough rolling stock to run services south of Canary Wharf.
Platform 5 is used by trains every 10 minutes at least. The link bridge from there to the DLR is closed already due to the rebuilding of the subway near it.

Last Thursday, thay were running Stratford-Canary Wharf every 5 minutes, using both platforms at Stratford. The train I was on stopped with only the front unit in the platform because of someone using an alarm. The passengers went over to the doors and wondered why they didn't open!
